My Actifit Report Card and Dawn of the Nugget: December 18 2023

I'm back with another Actifit Report and Update. It's a bit longer than usual. I wanted to finish the final post in my global collapse series. It is turning out to be much longer than expected. I could even split it into two posts. At the moment, it makes more sense to keep it as one. I'll see how it progresses. I hope to have it posted by the end of tomorrow.

Five days ago, I posted Part 4 of the series. The post focuses around the background of the tensions between Israel and Palestine. The history is complex and is typically told with a bias. I do not typically post about history but in this case, it is important to the context of the series.

Chicken Run

Chicken Run Dawn of the Nugget has just been released on Netflix. It has been over 20 years since the original classic. The original Chicken Run is also on Netflix.

I watched the two Chicken Run movies back-to-back, starting with the original. The original is still a really enjoyable movie. It tells the story of egg farming from the chickens' perspective. The chickens are the prisoners of the farmers. Their sole purpose is to lay eggs. If a chicken's egg production falls bellow a certain level, the chicken is taken away to be killed. Despite the serious nature of the themes to this movie, it is entertaining for viewers of all ages. The characters are colourful and full of personality.

The second movie is a direct continuation from the first. The chickens are now free from the Tweedy Farm. They appear to have established their own paradise. However, this paradise appears restrictive to the next generation of chickens who did have to endure the horrors of Tweedy Farm. Molly, the daughter of the two main protagonists of the first movie, wants to explore beyond their paradise. Her parents failed to tell her what the world was really like. She goes off on an adventure. Shortly after her departure, she encounters a lively Frizzle Chicken called Frizzle. She desperately wants to get to the Fun-land Farms. Powerful marketing entices them to break in. Once they get in, they realise this place is hiding a dark secret.

The second Chicken Run movie intends to tell the story behind the chicken meat industry. The portrayal is a lot softer than the original movie. Arguably, as a cartoon, it needs to be softer than reality but I don't think it went far enough. The original definitely achieved this.

Iconic Chicken Run Double Thumbs Up

I would argue the movie makes a different point. The chickens could be representative of us (people). Molly and Frizzle have a lot in common with many of the young people of today. They are gullible and shallow. They take whatever they see on the surface as the whole story. The double thumbs up part of the movie captures this brilliantly. Just like Molly and Frizzle, the youth of today are gleefully heading towards their own destruction. I would argue that Chicken Run has gone from humanizing chickens to chickenising humans. Watching the movies in this context brings great value out of both of them. Ten years from now, in an unintended way, more people will appreciate Chicken Run Dawn of the Nugget as a masterpiece .
