My Actifit Report Card and Update: July 11 2022
Hi Everyone,
It has been a while since my previous Actifit Report and Update. I've been busy with a post that took me a week to complete. I prefer not to break my train of thought.
I managed some activity yesterday when I mowed the law. Annoyingly, my counts are still not being allocated to the right days. Seems like the time zones are not aligning correctly. The Fitbit might be operating back on Queensland's time zone.
Boris Johnson resigned as the Prime Minister of UK on july 7, which happens to be my birthday. July 7 has been a day of misfortune for the UK. The 2005 London bombings occurred on July 7. It was surprising to see him resign. He has held strong for sometime. It appears the pressure from his own party was too strong and another vote of confidence would have been likely in the coming weeks. He would have lost badly.
Boris has not been a good Prime minister. His response to Covid-19 was disastrous but better than most of the other western countries. His ardent support for Ukraine is adding to the damage caused by his bad Covid-19 policies. His actions have also increased the chances of full-blown WW3. On a positive note, Brexit has not been a disaster. It is mostly working out for 3 of the 4 countries. Him leaving is not likely a good thing. None of his potential replacements seem likely to be an improvement. UK may still end up with an authoritarian warmonger as their Prime Minister. Overall picture is bleak.
My Content
I posted twice since my previous Actifit Report and Update. One post was about technology and the other about poverty.
I'm a fan of technology. It creates opportunities for improved efficiency and improved standard of living. However, the potential is not fully realised. Rewards of technology are being captured by the few. Even the direction of technology is being determined by the few. Instead of working fewer hours, people are working more. Instead of enhancing our ability, it is depleting it.
My second post was very time consuming. Collecting data and information took a long time. Less data is available for poorer countries. Determining the direction of the post took some time and was strongly influenced by what I found. Some of my perceptions changed as I went along.
The post considered many different factors that could be influencing the wealth of nations. They included leadership, geographical location, natural resources, trade, history, and culture and religion. All of the above appear to play some role but leadership (Government) and trade stood out as the core reasons. Lack of stability and corruption in Government renders these countries vulnerable to other countries and Big Business. The countries workforce are exploited as cheap labour and the natural resources are acquired cheaply. Value added to raw materials (proccessing) is occurring outside these countries. Many of these countries are stuck as the exploiters are also keeping these economies afloat. Their departure would be catastrophic in the short-run.
That wraps up this Actifit Report and Update. I hope everyone had a great weekend and will have an awesome and active week. I should be back in around a week with another report. All the best.

I have always known that it must take a lot of time to make those posts.
Happy birthday in arrears.
I wish Nigerian leaders could do what Boris did
However, the leaders in Nigeria don't mind doing wrongly and staying in the position to loot a lot of money.
Some posts take much longer than others. The post about the poorest nations took longer than most because of the amount of data and analysis needed. The post was longer than most as well (4,000+ words). Most of the other posts require less research and often I have good knowledge of the facts before I start writing. Many posts are linked to previous posts so that makes it easier to get started.
I can imagine the data analysed.
I guess you like research.
It is really not a good one to see Boris tender that resignation but no one occupies a sit forever so life moves on
