Tonya is the first and only daughter of a young married couple, her mother is domineering, with a possessive character and a high concept of success determining her daughter's figure skating career. The character of the mother is played by Allison Janney who is rude in dealing with others, rude even to ask for a favor, when Tonya was about 3 years old she takes her to a skating rink to enroll her in classes, but the teacher does not accept girls so small, this did not discourage her and insisted demonstrating the skills of her daughter until she was accepted.

As they were a low-income family and it was not easy to make a career in this sport, Tonya's mother put so much pressure on her husband that he decided to abandon them, leaving her in charge of her mother, although the girl did not want to. That made her a provider mother, worsening her character, turning her into an abuser and mistreater, but at the same time she was the main motivator of her daughter and the one who instilled in her to be the best and led her to succeed in skating.

The character of Tonya is played by Margot Robbie, the same actress who made the movie Barbie, here she is shown careless, rebellious, hostile and spoiled, so was Tonya in adolescence, her grades were not good, but in skating she was the best; however, she lost many competitions for her personal presentation, she did not have the bright and colorful dresses nor her makeup or hairstyle were up to par, always being in third place or off the podium.

She grew up with material limitations and suffering from bullying, which made her strong, ordinary and coarse, she had to change her musical tastes and body expression in order to excel in her sport to which she dedicated up to 10 hours a day, she managed to represent the United States in the Olympics, but was disqualified for a problem in which she was involved.

The relationship with her mother was difficult and pushed her to leave home as a teenager, she went to live with her boyfriend and soon after they married they began to mistreat each other and their relationship became toxic with beatings and death threats, it seemed that there was love, but it was not healthy, Several times they separated and returned, the scenes of fights seemed very real and stressful, at the same time Tonya reflected innocence in her behavior, she was an abused person since she was a child and deep down she suffered from depression, but when she skated she was the best, the only one, no one could beat her.

Apart from the scenes of family violence the ones that show her skating practices and competition are excellent, I don't know if this actress Margot Robbie learned to do the things Tonya did, I imagine she already knew how to skate because she convinced me to see a professional skater.

This film was made as if it were a documentary through interviews with those involved, Tonya, her family, friends, ex-husband and through the collection of information in the media, they show how difficult it is to build a career, the sacrifice both economic, human and time that must be invested and how easy it is to lose everything by not measuring the consequences of our actions, by a senseless ambition and bad company.

In the end I was sad for her, for Tonya, because she was a victim of her destiny, she was pressured since she was a child to be the best without receiving true love, that's why she only attracted bad treatment and the success she worked so hard for got out of her hands when she was so close to it.
