Avatar de James Cameron nunca causó un gran impacto en mí, a pesar de que en su momento generó un revuelo nunca antes visto. Trece años después, tenemos una nueva versión de todo este asunto.

Sigo pensando en Avatar como una apuesta arriesgada y seductora, con toques de acción que se centran en los paisajes frondosos y la magia ancestral. Es un poco de esto y aquello, con mucha ambición en sus haberes. Sin saberlo del todo, siento que mucho presupuesto arruina las cosas… y aun así, algunos resultados suelen superar las expectativas. ¿Pudo James Cameron conseguir por lo que tanto se esforzó? Algo es algo, dicen algunos. Aunque a veces la calidad debe admitirse, con todos los meritos necesarios… es hora de hablar un poco sobre el regreso de Pandora, los Na'vi y los inescrupulosos seres humanos.

Si ya has visto la primera película de Avatar, has de volver a verla para que no estés recordando adrede la evolución entre tantas tramas y personajes. Siendo honesto, me topé con el film y lo rezagué para después porque no tenía mucha emoción de verlo. Cuando lo hice tuve que paralizar el largometraje en sus primero diez minutos porque no recordaba absolutamente nada de la entrega anterior. Para no estar adivinando el por qué de tantas cosas incorporadas, volví al primer film. Sí, tuve que ver ambas pelis el mismo día y fue como ver una maratón. No fue una tortura porque desde luego, la propuesta de James Cameron suele hipnotizar por su despliegue visual, aunque he de admitir que tantos giros de cámara me marearon un poco.

Tras culminar la primera entrega, pestañando de la curiosidad, me vi la segunda por segunda vez (valga la redundancia). Ya reconocía a los personajes y el origen de tantos otros, y como un tonto señalaba a los protagonistas (Neytiri y Jake) diciendo algo cómo: “ah, estos son los de la rebelión pasada”. Hubo muchas sorpresas y muchas (pero muchas) cosas nuevas. Desde el principio la belleza del film es palpable, con esos seres azules montando aves larguiruchas y esas cascadas que flotaban sin razón aparente. Me esperé algo distinto en esta secuela, pero obvio los malos son los humanos así que ni modo: vuelven las guerras, vuelven los villanos y vuelve el escenario de batalla entre el hombre y la naturaleza.

After completing the first installment, blinking with curiosity, I saw the second for the second time (forgive the redundancy). He already recognized the characters and the origin of so many others, and like a fool he pointed to the protagonists (Neytiri and Jake) saying something like: “ah, these are the ones from the past rebellion”. There were many surprises and many (but many) new things. From the beginning the beauty of the film is palpable, with those blue beings riding lanky birds and those waterfalls that floated for no apparent reason. I expected something different in this sequel, but obviously the bad guys are humans so no way: the wars return, the villains return and the battle scene between man and nature returns.

Alguien me dijo alguna vez que James Cameron tuvo que fumarse algo potente para llevar a cabo tanta locura, pero supongo que todo es el resultado de tantos años de trabajo y eso vítores que lo abrazaron tras la nostalgia del Titanic. Supongo que al director le encanta jugar con lo que ven nuestros ojos y por supuesto, mover nuestro corazón… o al menos intentarlo. El Sentido del Agua es una apuesta que se debe mirar con atención. No es cualquier película, pero no por eso ha de ser la mejor película de la historia. Para los amantes de los buenos efectos y las aventuras extensas Avatar logra cautivar con buenas dosis de entretenimiento. Trece años no se fueron en vano, de eso podemos estar seguros.

Pero en tiempos en los que deseamos que todo vaya volando, posiblemente las películas lentas no sean tan agradables a los ojos del espectador. En un punto me vi en el dilema de tantos efectos especiales y una trama aparentemente densa, aunque quizás innecesariamente larga. Bueno, así se cocinan los films más atrevidos: argumentos desarrollados y situaciones bien explicadas, sin tantos cabos sueltos o giros de trama que solo llegan para arruinarlo todo. Aventurarse a ver El Sentido del Agua es tan arriesgado como el peligro que rodea a sus protagonistas. Las expectativas tendrán un factor de impulso pero también de caída. Si nada resulta como lo esperábamos, entonces asumimos que solo hay fracaso y nada más. ¿James Cameron fracasó? En lo particular, creo que logró lo que quería.

Claro que esto de Avatar no acaba: el propio James Cameron así parece confirmarlo con nuevas secuelas. En cuanto a esto, supongo que seguiremos viendo a enemigos y héroes conocidos, aunque ojalá la trama no se quede rezagada en el mismo limbo… “lo mismo” suele aburrir a veces. Habrá que esperar de todas formas, esta vez no será (o eso tengo entendido) tanto tiempo entre una película y la otra. Veremos cómo termina el asunto en Pandora. Crucemos los dedos para que el final no nos termine decepcionando. Mientras tanto, hay que disfrutar del resultado que tenemos por ahora.
