Liverpool dropping points like there's no tomorrow!
Alright, let's get to the business end of things then! The dust and anger of last week's horrendous refereeing that cost liverpool the match has settled. The cricket World cup has started and both my teams getting off to a flying start there yesterday may have alleviated the anger slightly faster. We are back to action today as Liverpool take on Brighton, Arsenal take on Man City and later in the night Barca face off against granada to reduce the gap at the top of the table!
Busy weekend eh! And it doesn't get easier as I have hematology ward exams in two days time. Fun times!
Liverpool vs Brighton, Let's go!
Interesting team, but not really a surprise! The only surprise is Joel Matip starting ahead of Ibrahima Konate, despite the later being fit again. Probably a precaution because he just played on thursday in the europa league.
Liverpool starts the midfield with Alexis McAllister, Dominik Szoboszlai (Expected names) and Harvey Elliot. And we Start up front with Mo Salah, Darwin Nunez and Luiz Diaz - our most exciting attacking trio up front in my opinion.
With Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones suspended through unfair, unjust red cards, this is realistically the Only team we can field today - so if anyone is having a stinker, Jurgen Klopp will have no one to turn to on the bench. Cody Gakpo is also out injured, so fingers crossed no one has a stinker today!
Harvey elliot in midfield makes sense. Against Brighton we do need a physical player in man to man pressing.
Couple of early threats from Brighton and Liverpool look to break on the counter via the agent of chaos - Darwin Nunez. He is taken down at the edge of the box by Solly March. Free Kick in a dangerous position.
My streaming service being absolute shite today. Hey, just like refereeing in European football :D
Liverpool survive another dangerous attack from Brighton.
What a goal from Brighton. McAllister loses the ball in midfield!
Liverpool defense getting terribly exposed, never a good sign so early in the game.
Brighton making things very difficult here for Liverpool with their man marking. Seems like only way for Liverpool to get back into the game is some individual magic.
McAllister is having a bad game, and that spells trouble for klopp. No real quality replacement for him on the bench. Maybe Endo? Maybe Gravenberch?
Brilliant team play and Liverpool are back Level! Mo SALAH, who else!
Penalty for Liverpool!
Mistake from the keeper. Pascal Gross had no choice but to concede the penalty. Nunez has the ball. He hands it over to Mo Salah. And Mo Salah drives it in!
Tell you what! If Liverpool conceded that foul, VAR would have called the ref to give that a red card 100%.
2-1 to Liverpool at the stroke of half time!
Garvenberch on for Harvey Elliot after half time.
Allison makes a very important save, but he seems to have hurt himself in the process.
HOW ON EARTH HAS GRAVENBERCH HIT THE POST THERE! Liverpool should have been 3-1 up. Brilliant play Between Darwin Nunez and Szoboszlai in the build up.
Another brilliant play from Liverpool, this time Luis Diaz skies it. Liverpool have looked really solid since the introduction of Gravenberch, but they should really have killed the game by now and yet, they have kept brighton alive.
Tensions fly high and Brighton almost equalize and feels they should have had a penalty in the process. But the hits Van Dijk on the knee before bouncing off to hit the arm, so no handball given.
And that is what happens when you keep Brighton alive! Lewis Dunk equalizes for Brighton!
2-2!
Joe Gomez on for Trent Alexander Arnold after the equalizer is strange, we should be looking for goals and Trent gives us that threat down the right.
Brighton are getting hold of the game now, freekick in a promising position, similar to the one they equalized from.
Now how has Joao Pedro missed from there! What an opportunity to win the game for Brighton and they should have been ahead!
Liverpool kept Brighton alive, now Brighton return the favour!
Brighton looking like the one with more urgency to get a winner. Liverpool look like they have had the wind kicked out of them. Ansu Fati comes on for Brighton.
And there's that! 2-2 at Full Time!
Both teams had their chances to kill the game off, both teams squandered them. A fair result in the end.
Off to watch the City Arsenal game, but won't be writing the analysis on it as I prefer to analyze the Barcelona match late night. Until then, Ciao!
