Football is Back!
The international break is FINALLY over! Heck yeah! I have never been this excited for this stupid break to be over! For whatever reason, this drought of 2 weeks of no football has been extremely boring and that is despite the fact that the Cricket world cup is also simultaneously ongoing. One factor is definitely the fact that a game of cricket goes on for 7 or 8 hours, sometimes more. That is some serious time commitment - one which I am not too comfortable with. Hence, after a long week, some feisty football on the weekends is just what the doctor ordered! This has been a good weekend so far.
1. Liverpool 2-0 Everton
Couldn't catch the entire game. But this match did NOT live up to its status as the Merseyside derby. It hasn't for many years now actually. This is just a one sided game with traffic flowing one direction only. The gulf between the two teams is so big, we could fit in an entire country there!
The game however did have its fair share of controversy as one would expect from a derby. So yeah, I guess it did live up to its expectation as a derby, but for all the wrong reasons!
A Mo Salah brace to seal the deal in the end! And to think after all the wrong refereeing decisions that robbed liverpool since the beginning of this season, they are still ONLY one point from the top of the table is nothing short of astounding!
2. Chelsea 2-2 Arsenal
That Liverpool is still only a point off from the top is hugely thanks to Arsenal dropping two points at the Stamford bridge. Comparing the forms of the two teams leading up to this game, it was expected that Arsenal would have a walk in the park and sweep Chelsea away! The match however was anything but! In fact it was chelsea who dominated the majority of the game. The fact that they didn't actually get away with all three points there is entirely down to their goalkeeper for gifting arsenal the goal and letting them a way into the game at a time the game should have been done and dusted.
Chelsea will feel extremely hard done with the result (not that I even care lol!), but for a side struggling to stay in the top 10, and for a team who were expected to be swept away easily my most pundits before the game - this was a pretty good result. They however have ways to go if they are to be considered a top team in England again. Right now, teams that are better than chelsea include (besides City, Liverpool, Arsenal and spurs) Aston villa, Brighton, My Chair, West Ham United, My table.
And to sum off the good weekend, we have........
3. Sevilla 1-1 Real Madrid
All I need right now is for Barcelona not to screw up tonight and close the gap with Real madrid at the top!
I love to watch football.
