What a Very Good Friday!🤗
Growing up in the Midwest, you could always count on rain for Good Friday!😅
So it was completely unexpected to wake up to beautiful sunshine today!😎
I was also pleasantly surprised to see the trailhead at the Gold Mine empty as well!😇
I began today’s uphill journey on a trail of newly laid gravel, graciously provided by the owner of this adjacent field Mr. Lautenbach!😊
If you look at the fourth photo, the original trail snaked its way through trees and brush on the right side of the fence. It was always challenging to pick your way through this wet and muddy start to the Gold Mine trail!🙄This land was owned by a different private landowner who decided he did not want anyone hiking on his property anymore.
Lautenbach, graciously not only fenced a small portion of his pasture off for hikers, but also regularly recruits members of the public to help maintain this historic network of trails!👍😊

Reaching the top of his pasture, you immediately notice a difference in the forest……..
Spanish Moss drapes gracefully through the branches of massive old growth, Western red cedar trees!
They dominate the lower elevations of this Mountain.
You also find yourself reaching in your backpack for a sweatshirt, the forest is much cooler here sheltered by these giant trees!
As you climb higher you start to hear the faint sound of fast running water. Soon you will be approaching your first stream crossing…………
The trail has now become a narrow footpath, each step close to the edge of a steep hillside.
A fast moving stream has cut its path through rock and dirt in the valley far below!
This is the only sound you hear…………..
No other hikers today……….. just the sound of Silvertop’s footsteps, walking through the deep forest!😊
Yes…. Today Is a Very “Good Friday!”🤗
