Weather Can Turn On A Dime!😳
“It’s a beautiful day Cot, Dads going to hike the “Gold Mine trail today!”
I reached the top of a large pasture, just above the trailhead, and snapped the first photo!😊
After you hike this network of trails a few times, you start seeing the “regulars” ..………
Locals that love these Mountains as much as Silvertop, take to these trails everyday!☺️
I passed one man on my way up to the old log cabin, that sits far above these trails, on a hilltop.
“Silvertop I see you are hiking the extra steep trail up to the cabin today! I’m short on time today, so I took the easy trail!” 😇
Now let Silvertop explain…………
I took the direct route, ( 2 miles straight up), a trail suitable for mountain goats Lol!😅
My hiking friend, took the complete loop, a much easier hike, that is about 4.9 miles in length!
Strange as it sounds, the longer trail, actually takes less time!😇
I was expecting to see snow up at the log cabin………….
I wasn’t expecting to see a heavy “Corn” snowstorm on my decent downhill! 😳
Corn snow is basically a storm of miniature balls of ice, that quickly cover everything, even under a heavy tree canopy!
I could see very dark clouds forming up at the log cabin, so my visit was short……….
This cabin was built in 1891, and if you like VERY rustic overnight camping, this cabin is free on a first come, first served basis!😇
I hurried downhill….. the sky became extremely dark!😮
When I reached my two wheel drive Dodge Dakota pickup truck, it was completely covered in snow!
How did this happen in the middle of March?🤔
I have two very steep hills to climb to reach my driveway, and on the last one my truck tires were spinning out, I was losing traction!🙄
I was crossing my fingers, hoping I didn’t meet another car on the hill!
I pushed the remote button for our electric driveway gate, it quickly swung open!
I slowed down but kept moving…….I was finally safely home!🤗
“Cot, where did this snowstorm come from?” 😻
He looked at me as if to say…………
“See Dad, you should have stayed home and built a nice warm fire for me!”😻
“OK Cot move over a little, Dad needs some of the heat from the Wood stove, you need to learn to share Lol!”☺️
