This is the first time Bangladesh has won the T20 World Cup without Shakib
This is the first time Bangladesh has won the T20 World Cup without Shakib
In 2006, South Africa hosted the first edition of the Twenty20 World Cup. After that, five events were held in the field.
Bangladesh has played in each from the beginning. The best star of the team Shakib Al Hasan also played. The world's best all-rounder has played every match in the T20 World Cup for Bangladesh.
He was with the team from the beginning of this World Cup again. He has played a total of 6 matches, including three in the first round and three in the Super Twelve.
If all went well, Shakib would have been on the team for the remaining two matches against South Africa and Australia. But a hamstring injury knocked him out of the World Cup.
As a result, today (Tuesday) Bangladesh took the field without Shakib. This is the first time the Tigers have played without him since the first edition of the T20 World Cup (in 2006).
Two changes to the Tiger XI
Only two matches in hand. South Africa and Australia. It is certain to say goodbye to Bangladesh at three consecutive rates. Even then, the Tigers are playing against South Africa with the dream of keeping their hopes alive on paper.
Mahmudullah Riyad's team got the first batting after losing the toss in Abu Dhabi. There have been two changes in the Tiger XI.
Shamim Hossain Patwari has entered the XI as Shakib Al Hasan has been ruled out due to injury. Mostafizur Rahman has been dropped, Nasum Ahmed has come.
Bangladesh XI
Mohammad Naeem Sheikh, Liton Das, Shamim Hossain Patwari, Soumya Sarkar, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah (captain), Afif Hossain Dhruv, Sheikh Mehedi Hasan, Nasum Ahmed, Shariful Islam, Taskin Ahmed.
South Africa XI
Riza Hendricks, Quinton de Kock, Rossi van der Dassen, Temba Bavuma (captain), Aiden Markram, David Miller, Dwayne Pretorius, Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj, Enrich Nortsey, Tabare.
Bangladesh lost the toss and elected to bat to keep the 'last hope' alive
Bangladesh's departure from the T20 World Cup is certain. Hope there is a little bit of paper-pen. The Tigers can only do the impossible if many 'if buts are matched.
But before that, you have to be sure to win the last two matches. Mahmudullah Riyadh's team is going to play against South Africa with such an equation in mind.
The toss at the Sheikh Abu Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi did not help the Tigers. South African captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and was elected to field.
The Tigers lost the first three matches of the tournament and their backs are against the wall. Riyadh lost the match against Sri Lanka and West Indies. England, however, did not get along.
Even if they won one of those three matches, Bangladesh would have survived well in the semi-finals. That did not happen. Now we have to look at a lot of 'if but'. Before that, we have to win today's match against South Africa.
Bangladesh has dropped 134 catches in four years
Catching failure is the main reason for the frustration of the Bangladesh team in the current T20 World Cup. Bangladesh dropped four catches in the first three matches. However, Mahmudullah Riyadh's team got the ticket of Super Twelve after losing to Oman and Papua New Guinea.
But in the fight of Super Twelve, the subsidy of catch miss has to be paid. Liton Das dropped a pair of catches in the first match against Sri Lanka. Vanuka Rajapaksa and Charith Asalanka got their lives lost. Later both of them lost to Bangladesh.
The same fate befell the match against the West Indies. On that day, Sheikh Mehdi Hasan, Afif Hossain Dhruv, and Liton Das missed four chances. Ruston Chase, Nicholas Puran, and Jason Holder were brought to life that day. The Caribbeans got the capital to win with the bat of these three.
Not only the current World Cup, but Bangladesh's catching failure has also been going on for the last 3-4 years. So far this year, 46 catches have been missed by Bangladesh fielders in 33 matches. In all, 229 catches were made. From where 182 palate was closed but 46 escaped.
This is the calculation of the current year. Since 2016, Bangladesh fielders have dropped one out of every five catches. In all, in the last four years, 80 catches were made against Bangladesh, of which 528 were saved and the remaining 134 were missed. Apart from this, there was a failure to turn many half-chances into full chances.
Bangladesh has dropped 41 catches in 30 matches in 2016, 41 in 30 matches in 2019, and 13 catches in nine matches in 2020. And 48 catches in 33 matches this year. Bangladesh has a lot of games in the remaining two months of the year. Everyone will have the expectation that the catches will not run in those matches.
