Shared Earth Rice Husk Keep Cups: February 17 2022

It was one of those days yesterday - I forgot to turn the power on when I put my phone on charge and then, later, when I set out to do steps after I had charged my phone, I remembered I was expecting an online delivery and had to hurry home!

Never mind, I did Pilates earlier in the day, plus an hour in the garden sweeping leaves (crazy between two storms, but there you are), as well as my quick turn to boost my steps, so even though it's a low count, it was an active day.

I take my new keep cup with me when I'm stepping, one of my Christmas presents from a little local independent shop. They're made by Shared Earth from rice husks and are BPA and toxin free.

They are dishwasher and microwave safe and should last for years (I've only had mine for a few months, so can't comment). When you are ready to dispose of it, it is fully biodegradable. Just soak in water overnight, crush and bury it in soil or compost. It will start to biodegrade within six months.

Lots of lovely designs on the Shared Earth website, about £10 each, and they come with a silicone lid and sleeve. Silicone is not biodegradable, but is non-toxic and recyclable.

I've just noticed that their address is 71 Bold Street in Liverpool, so I must pop in next time I am visiting. They're not far from News from Nowhere Radical and Community Bookshop at 96 Bold Street.

Storm Eunice is raging outside, torrential rain and high winds with debris regularly hitting the windows. Meanwhile, the postman has just delivered my letters! The buses seem to be running normally as well, although the traffic is lighter than usual.

Source Here's some of the damage wreaked by Eunice - the roof of the O2 Arena in London has been ripped off. Lots of other damage around the country and snow in Scotland. I have a friend called Eunice (aged 83), a very respectable person. It's amusing me that the Storm is named after her.

Eunice was 'Ylenia' in Germany and is currently followed by 'Zeynep'. Ylenia took the canvas roof off of our garden pavillon, let's see what Zeynep will do.

In German there was minted the term "Sturmwichteln" a few years ago. 'Wichteln' is the word for "secret santa" and Sturmwichteln describes how the storm might bring a present (or you give someone an unexpected present).

Hehe, maybe sturmwichteln brings more than you expected 😍. I like it!
Canvas roofs seem especially vulnerable. I had a gazebo in the garden one summer and a quite light wind lifted it off the ground and across neighbouring gardens. My neighbour next door rescued it, thank goodness.

I hear in London that dustbins are blowing about 'like paper'.

I hope you don't have too much damage.

The gazebo itself isn't damaged, just the cloth top. It looked like a half peeled-off lid of a joghurt yesterday morning - of course nobody made a picture before it was all removed ;)

We secured our dustbins to each other with a rope through the handles - the paper bin is the biggest and half full.

And I just got a "You have to watch this"-link of a video with commentary of planes landing at Heathrow. Strangely fascinating...
