Seeing my neighborhood with different eyes / Viendo mi barrio con otros ojos - My Actifit Report Card: April 2 2025
Today was a busy day, working out at the gym, shopping and inquiries and when I got home I had to leave again to go to the bodega with the best prices and the most stocked one that is about 10 blocks from the house. While walking back with the groceries for lunch, I was provoked to take pictures of the plaza and church of my community. This neighborhood is called Bella Vista and is located in Aragua, Venezuela. I grew up seeing these streets, as my grandmother bought her house here 50 years ago.
I still remember when they paved its streets on a day of visiting grandma's house, I was about 5 years old. You can easily tell this neighborhood is old by looking at the width of its streets and the size of the original house lots. Each house, although small with three rooms and a bathroom, had many yards of land for planting and raising domestic animals.
Hoy fue un día de mucho movimiento, ejercicios en el gimnasio, compras y averiguaciones y al llegar a casa me tocó salir de nuevo para ir a la bodega con mejores precios y la más surtida que queda a unas 10 cuadras de la casa. Mientras caminaba de regreso con los alimentos para el almuerzo, me provocó sacar fotos de la plaza y la iglesia de mi comunidad. Este barrio se llama Bella Vista y se encuentra en Aragua, Venezuela. Crecí viendo estas calles, pues mi abuela compró su casa aquí hace 50 años.
Aún recuerdo cuando asfaltaron sus calles en un día de visita a la casa de la abuela, yo tenía unos 5 años. Con facilidad se puede saber que este barrio es antiguo al mirar el ancho de sus calles y el tamaño de los terrenos de las casas originales. Cada casa, aunque pequeña de tres habitaciones y un baño, poseía muchos metros de terreno para la siembra y cría de animales domésticos.
In this church I made my first communion and confirmation, sacraments of the catholic church, and my parents baptized many people here, an important part of my family history is in these streets, here my parents met, here I had my first boyfriend, here I studied my first years, I left and lived far away and came back to take care of my grandmother, it seems that Bella Vista does not want to let me go.
En esta iglesia hice mi primera comunión y confirmación, sacramentos de la iglesia católica, y mis padres bautizaron a muchas personas aquí, parte importante de la historia de mi familia está en estas calles, aquí se conocieron mis padres, aquí tuve mi primer novio, aquí estudié mis primeros años, me fui y viví lejos y regresé a cuidar a mi abuela parece que Bella Vista no me quiere dejar ir.
