MY FAVOURITE SPORT MOVIE
There are numerous sports movies I could easily pick for this post ranging from facing the giants, we are Marshalls, Woodlawn, Coach Carter, 12 mighty orphans to safety.
For my entry today, I am sticking with the sport love story of Safety. This movie entails the real-life story of Ray McElrathbey, a football player who showed affectionate love for family.
Do you believe that the life of an average university student is already tough enough on its own? Then imagine having to deal with Classes, Grades, Football, coupled with taking care of a beloved one on Campus where no one must know he is on campus.
“SAFETY," is based on the true story of a young athlete who puts his undying love for his little brother ahead of his future ambitions.
This movie is based on the life of Ray McElrathbey, in the film, Ray Ray is a talented football player who takes on not only the responsibility of caring for himself but also his young brother after his mother's addiction leaves him abandoned, as he can't bear to see him move in with foster care.
Ray McElrathbey was living the college dream with a football scholarship to Clemson University, but he has to fight the looming cloud which hangs over his otherwise excellent college life when his mother with drug issue is placed in a recovery facility and he suddenly has to care for his 11-year-old brother. With his entire future on the line, Ray struggles between doing what’s right for the brother he loves and doing what he needs to do for his future.
Safety is a powerful film about what it means to be a family and the adage “Charity begins at home." And unlike most sports films, it’s not about a team winning against the odds, it’s about a young man showing what Love and family are all about.
Even with all the difficulties he had to go through, he still graduated and was reunited with his younger brother and mother as it was revealed during the credit that Ray succeeded and was reunited with Fahmar and their wholly sober mother.
