The 2nd test was played between Newzealand vs Bangladesh on Sunday, Jan 09, 2022 - Tuesday, Jan 11 at Hagley Oval, Christchurch. Newzealand beat Bangladesh by an innings and 117 runs and levelled the two match test series at 1-1.
1st Innings:
Bangladesh won the toss and invited Newzealand to bat first. Newzealand had a great start. Tom Latham and Will Young made 148 runs opening partnership. Young was gone for 54 runs. Then Devon Conway came out and made 215 runs big partnership with Latham. Conway was ran out by Mehidy for 109 runs. Ross Taylor was dismissed by Ebadot for 28. Henry Nicholls and Darryl Mitchell gone early. Tom Blundell came out and scored unbeaten 57 runs by 60 balls. Tom Latham played his best innings in his test career. He scored 252 runs by 373 balls including 34 fours and 2 sixes. Finally Newzealand scored 521 runs by 6 wickets in 1st innings.
In reply Bangladesh all out for only 126 runs in first innings. Except Yasir Ali's 55 runs and Nurul Hasan's 41 runs other batsman totally failed to score a reputable innings. Kiwi bowlers performed really well. Trent Boult picked up 5 wickets, Tim Southee 3 wickets and Kyle Jamieson 2 wickets.
2nd Innings
In 2nd innings Bangladesh struggled to recover follow on. Bangladesh out for 278 runs in 2nd innings. Bangladeshi batsman failed to score big innings except Liton Das century. Das scored 102 runs in 114 balls including 14 fours and a six.
Again kiwi bowlers showed their strength. Pacer Kyle Jamieson picked up 4 wickets. Neil Wagner took 3 wickets. Tim Southee, Daryl Mitchell and Ross Taylor each took one wicket. Ross Taylor took the maiden test wicket in his farewell match. Tom Latham was player of the match and Devon Conway was player of the series.
