Real Madrid Eliminate Barca From Copa Del Rey In Style

Do we call this an El Classico of Madness? As a Madrid fan, I wasn’t excited about this Classico. As usual, I thought we were gonna be eliminated from the Copa del. I had not just one but two problems. One of the problems being we are not lucky in the Copa del Rey. Each year we get evicted not just by good teams but random teams as well. The other problem was that it was an elclassico, an encounter in which we have struggled throughout this season against Barca no matter the location.

The first Classico of this season went in our favour. It was at Bernabeu and we won 3-1, the second was not a very good one as we were trashed by Barca 3-1, and we lost the Super Cup to them in Saudi Arabia.

The third time we faced them this season was at Bernabeu again in the first leg of the Copa dey, an encounter in which we were slightly better but amazingly we have 0 shots in target. We lost that much by a goal to nil. The fourth time we faced them was at Camp Nou. A Classico of controversies and as usual we lost 2-1 to them. Making it 3 wins to one this season. Playing Barcelona was beginning to get annoying for me cause I knew we will be trashed by them easily.

Yesterday, was an encounter in which we needed to redeem ourselves. This time around we had to come out with an attacking team from the onset. As usual, the lineup of Real Madrid came out 2 hours before kickoff and as expected Vini and Benzema were part of the front 3. The third was a surprise to me as I didn’t expect to see Rodrigo in the lineup. I know he’s been good lately but doesn’t really get Into the starting lineup.

In the middle, we had Modric, Kroos and Valverde. It seems Valverdes from in front of goal is slowing down so it’s better he’s in the midfield. As usual, we had Camavinga at left-back as Mendy is injured for the 100th time this season. Alaba and Militao were the Center back pairs with Carjaval as the Right back; a RB I’ve not been pretty pleased with. When Carvajal plays his side gets easily exploited.

The first half of the game was not that good from our perspective. Barca started well and all credit should be given to the back line as they did a super job at holding and preventing Barca from scoring. Just as the first half was about ending we got a counter-attack which I think most people in the stadium knew how it was gonna end.

Rodrigo managed to get the ball forward to Vini who managed to progress with the ball. It ended up in his feet coming back from Benzema to slot the ball home for 1-0. That was it for the first half. It went to 2-0 pretty quickly after the break from Benzema’s goal. Then a third and 4th all coming from Benzema. He got a hat trick at the Camp Nou. Something which hasn’t happened in like forever at the camp nou.

When the front three of Madrid turn up for a game there’s no stopping them. I think Ramadan Kareem is the best version of Kareem that Madrid can ever have and with this kind of form, we can easily blow off any team. Am happy we won this one and can hopefully see off Osasuna easily in the final to send the trophy home.
