The nights of the champions league are special indeed. Yesterday, there was a lot at stake for certain teams in their groups. In group Group A, Napoli had only qualified but Liverpool the other hand needed a point to go through. They were against the Dutch champions ajax. In group B, club Brugge where the group leaders, were up against Porto who needed to win to cement their spot in the last 16. Their group member Atm needed to win against Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen to take it to the last match day.

In group C, Inter needed to win against Plzen to cement their place in the last 16. Barca on the other hand was up against Bayern who had already qualified. For Barca to quality, they needed Plzen to avoid defeat against inter and make sure they win their match against Munich at the camp nou.

Spurs on the other hand are the only team in the premier league who are yet to go through to the last 16. They needed to win their match against sporting to make sure of it. Frankfurt needed to make sure they win to take their group to the last day.

I didn't think Ajax will be getting much from this match. A lot was at stake for Liverpool going into this match so a lot of us saw the Liverpool coming. Liverpool needed a reaction to the loss that they encounter this weekend against Forest. The match started with Ajax having a lot of chances to go ahead.

They had a chance in which I could put my life was going in. When Berguis took the shot Alison was left standing helpless as he could only watch the ball come off the right post. Minutes later Alison had to put in a great save to stop another shot from Ajax. In the first 40 minutes, it was a fair affair for both sides with Ajax looking like the team that will get the first goal but it didn't happen.

42 minutes into the goal Liverpool had a lightning counter-attack. They moved the ball quickly onto the foot of Henderson who played a beautiful pass into the path of Salah. Salah saw the keeper come out and he lofted it over him. After that goal, Liverpool got hold of the game and threatened more. They played better and few minutes Into the second half they had their second through Nunez, a player who I think is getting better and better.

After that second goal, we all saw Liverpool which we think has been missing this whole season. They controlled the ball better, moved it around better and defended better. Elliot got their third and final goal of the night and it was over. Liverpool is through to the last 16 becoming the 3 after Chelsea and Manchester City.

I don't think a lot can be said about this Napoli side. They are hot right now. They are top of the Serie A standings, top of their group and are yet to lose a match this season. This has been their best start to any season. No one saw this coming as they lost some of their key players this season but it doesn't seem to have slowed them down.

Yesterday they had already qualified and were just playing against rangers for fun. I think they needed to show the world that they mean business this time and putting Liverpool in this in the same group as them won't stop them from winning their group. They have won all five matches of their group stage, and they have scored 20 goals and conceded only 4.

Come on, what more could we ask of them. When the 20 goals they are the top-scoring team in the champions league this season. I hope they can go far this season. In a group with Liverpool and Ajax, no one expected them to come out on top. Milan and Inter Milan have all qualified for the last 16 alongside Napoli.

Up until yesterday the only team that had qualified from group B was club bruge. Porto had to win against Club Brugge and hope that Atletico doesn't win against Leverkusen. Porto did the right thing by thrashing Club Brugge 4-0. They have qualified alongside Brugge after Atm failed to beat Leverkusen.

I was surprised to see this score line, the last time these two sides met Club Brugge thrashed Porto 4 -0. Am not sure I should call this a revenge match for Porto.

Group B was never wrapped up until Atletico wrapped it up with their own hands. All they needed to do was win against Leverkusen and then everything will be left in their hands. They needed to get a win and then take this to the last day. On the last day of the group matches, they are up against Porto who best club Brugge.

If they had won this they would have had 7 points with Porto at 9. On the last day winning against Porto would have handed them the second spot. But what did not they do? They showed us the Atletico Madrid spirit and conceded the first goal. Conceding the first meant they had to score more and the task kept on getting harder. They managed to keep it at 2-2 in the 90th minute. The ref blew the whistle but had to give them a penalty after the VAR intervention. They thought they had won it was until the keeper saved the penalty.

Now Leverkusen need them to lose against Porto and then getting a win against Brugge will guarantee them a Europa spot.

Before the start of rye champions league matches, if anyone had told me inter would be qualifying at the expense of Barcelona getting kicked out I would have called him a liar. Well, football can be weird sometimes.

In this group, Bayern had already qualified and what needed to be done was Inter win to get that second spot. Plzen needed to avoid defeat to help Barcelona cause of qualifying. But it didn't happen, the match was done and dusted even before it started. We all knew Plzen will be thrashed by Inter. The only people who thought of a miracle were the Barca faithful. Inter thrashed them 4 goals to nil with Dzeko and Lukaku both scoring.

Plzen has played 5 and lost all five. Can we blame them if they were placed in a group with Barca, Bayern and Inter? No one expected them to qualify out of the group but it was pride for them to play in the champions league.

From reports, Xavi got his men together to watch Inter Milan vs Plzen. If they were to have any hopes of qualifying, they needed Plzen to avoid defeat and then they go ahead to defeat Bayern Munich. Well, it didn't happen for them as Inter thrashed Plzen. After seeing their chances of qualifying to the last seeing flushed down the drain, they came into this match unmotivated ( as they claim).

Bayern Munich, on the other hand, had qualified already but as you know already they never like to miss a chance of disgracing Barcelona. 10 minutes into the game Mane had the first goal in the back of the net.

Barcelona has been able to build a wonderful team over the summer but it seems when they come up against a big team they shit their pants. They are not good enough and for the second season in a row they have been kicked off the champions league and into the euro league.

Group D is still up for grabs. The four teams are keenly aware that they can still qualify for the champions league on the last day. The first has 8 points with the second on 7, the third on 7 and the last with 6 points.

Frankfurt is up against Sporting on the last day. If they win they are sure to qualify but it will be a huge task as all the teams in that group will be pumped up to qualify.

Out of the four premier league teams in the champions, league spurs are the ones to have not qualified for the last 16 yet. Yesterday they needed a win against sporting to qualify but they ended up having to fight for a draw.

Kane managed to get a last-minute goal into the back of the net but his provided was ruled to be offside. They will have to see this out on the last day when they will come up against Marseille. Marseille knows if they can get that all-important win they will qualify. It will be very difficult for spurs to get that win. A draw will still help their course but might not help them win the group.

I think they should try winning the group to avoid getting a very strong team in the last 16 and having to leave the competition early.

This is a summary of yesterday's action. From all the action packed matches I seem to have enjoyed Barcelona's downfall so much. I like seeing them in the Europa league.
