The Worst Upset to Watch in My Life: Pakistan's Shocking Loss to the USA in T20 World Cup

I don’t know from where to start as I am not at all in a good mood today. The reason, my title of this post says it all. This is my first post in Sports Talk Social community and it’s about something shocking and unexpected to me. Being a Pakistani, I just love Cricket just like every other Pakistani do and it is one of the most played game in the streets of Pakistan but things are getting changed slowly as I have seen many of Cricket lovers backing up and having no interest in watching Cricket and it is all because of the performance of our team which is getting worst year by year. What I witnessed today will be remembered for a long time or I can say is unforgettable for the fans.

T20 World cup is recently started on 2nd June, hosted by USA and West Indies. There are many teams who are playing as debut teams in world cup and one of those is USA. Today was the first match of my team Pakistan vs USA. I was really excited and I believe that every Pakistani was excited that our first match is with new team where we are going to perform our best and can win one sided match. It was an easy peasy match for Pakistan, this is what we all thought of.

Lets have a review on Pakistan’s performance in last couple of World Cups and big tournaments. We always come to the situation where it gets tough for us to qualify for the semis or even quarters. If that team wins and other team lose, if that happens, I mean we get so stuck with IFS and our qualify depends on other teams so we all got used to it. This time, Pakistan from the beginning made our minds not to expect much from them in this tournament. They will not be giving us head ache of IFS.

Since the beginning of today’s match, body language of Pakistani Players were not looking good and on the other hand, USA team was on top of Pakistan through their bowling attack and fielding charisma. They had first three wickets in no team, making it difficult for other batsmen. USA team was so active and aggressive that they didn’t give any loop holes to Pakistan and kept taking wickets with regular interval of time. However, a good knock by Shadab Khan gave a little boost to the total but I wont say Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistani Team, who made 40s had a good knock because he can do much better than that and it was all expected from him as he is one of the world class batsman. In the end, a handy knock from Shaheen Afridi made the total of 159 and 160 was the target for USA.

I was still confident enough that Pakistani bowlers can make Pakistan win this match as we do have one of the best bowling attack in the world. but once again, I was wrong. It was all messed up by the bowlers in the start of second innings. The Captain and opener batsman of USA, M. Patel scored half century and the rest was achieved by A. jones, really impressed with this guy, very confident and showing no confusion in selection of shots. In the end, the game changed a bit and I was again happy to know that 15 required in last 6 balls, which was not easy on the bowling attack of Harris Rauf. Couple of full tosses from Harris once again flipped the game into the hands of USA and in the end, boundary on the last bowl equals the score and tied this match 159 to 159 from USA.
Now, the match gets into a Super over. At this point of the game, I was still confident enough that Pakistan is going to win. Aamir, gets the bowl in his hands for Super over. Unfortunately, the first ball went too far on offside and USA gets a boundary, not giving away any opportunity on such loose bowls. Later, I think Aamir, who is very experienced bowler, got confused or tried too much which provided USA with three wide bowls and not only extra, USA batsmen even made runs on running on these wides. I was speechless with such a worst performance from Pakistan, specially Aamir, I was shocked to see such type of irresponsible bowling from him. USA scored 18 runs on 6 balls and now, at this point, I was sure that we are not going to win from here. However, Iftikhar and Shadab tried to score and hit big but were unable to get near to that score. USA have every right reason to celebrate their win as they performed splendidly well and out beaten Pakistani batsmen and bowlers. We cannot just say that USA wins because of bad performance of Pakistan, it is USA who grabbed every opportunity at the right time to make it difficult for Pakistan to win.

I have seen too many loses of Pakistan but this, it was the worst and the biggest upset I have ever seen in my life. I am not sure what worst I would be seeing in future but this one will be unforgettable. There will be too much of debate and criticisms on the performance of Pakistani team in Social Media and the memes will be getting ready for the players by tomorrow, this is trending right now. But the fact is USA wins with their hard work and as a Cricket fan, I enjoyed their bowling and batting and I think they are going to be the next big team in Cricket sometime soon. Now, we hope that Pakistan wins the rest of the matches which looks a bit blurry to me lol but hope for the best and congratulations to USA on their historic win over Pakistan.
