Fantasy league Employee Campaign: Fun at Work
Cricket World Cup T20 has just started and being a Pakistani, majority of us are so passionate and super fans of cricket. Most of us even do not know how to play or an average player in young age including me, but when it comes on commenting on the match, we act as an experts. Gossips, suggestions, decision-making, blaming the players and blaming the decision of the captain, we are on top of it. Well, you all are thinking why I am talking about sports in worklife community, the reason is this sport has took over our company till the final of CWC T20 i.e. 13th Nov 2022.
Couple of months ago, Mr. Hasan has joined our company as Marketing manager and is really working hard to spread the name of our company on social media. In a discussion with him, I shared an idea to have some cricket quiz on social media to attract different people to our page. He liked the idea and did the same. But he took that idea to next level and started internal competition related to ongoing Cricket World Cup.
He named this competition as Fantasy league and the winner will get a cash rewards along with Penta Cup. What a brilliant initiative. This is something new for the employees and specially for the cricket lovers and fans working in our company. He encouraged all staff to participate in it and asked managers to help and support those who do not have access to systems in order to take part in it. I was shocked to see few people were not interested and didn’t made their team for the fantasy league. I then had a discussion with them, they do not know the players or do not understand the criteria to select the players.
Talking about myself, I am a cricket fan but I am also not following cricket for a long time and do not know about new players other than that of Pakistan or India but still managed to make a team so, I guided them to have their teams as well just to be in the leaderboard. One of my teammate was on leaves so, I intimated him and shared the rules through WhatsApp to build his team and share with me. I do not want anyone to miss this chance and was personally visiting other departments to motivate and get everyone in it. Around 43 people submitted their teams for this competition.
It is a very good initiative mainly because this will help employees to get to know each other, involve in discussions and share their opinions. We do have many new employees as company is in growing stage, so many of us do not know each other well. Through this league, we are going to interact and have some fun at work which is a very good sign. In just five days and seven matches, there is too much of entertainment going on in the office.
Yesterday, a boy named Durrani was on top of the leader-board. Most of the people were clueless that who is durrani, is he working in headoffice or other city office. Well, being in CS department, I almost know everyone because we do interact with each other in terms of complaints and service requests. I told them he is in operations. Suddenly, he came to me for some case. I shouted on the floor, he is Durrani, the owner of leading team. This was so funny.
Our CEO has also taken part in it although he is on number 30-35 in last five days but the game has just begun and there will too many ups and downs, hoping to see my name in top 10 even just for once :P but the reality is, my team is not that good, many of the players are not in playing XI due to which I am not getting enough points to compete with other teams LOL. This is getting more exciting day by day and we are having a good fun time in office, making fun of each other players, jinxing other in form players, expecting too much from selected good players. It would be interesting to see who wins but this is going to give a real good time in office till the final of CWC. We, the employees are loving it.

That's a great initiative to drum up interaction in the office and get to know one another. And with these activities, everyone is on a level playing field regardless on whether you're the CEO or some one like Durrani who many don't know. Well done to Mr Hasan and yourself!
