CineTV Contest: A Gentlemen's Game "Lagaan"
A great shot by Cine TV and it’s all over the ground for six or a perfect kick to hit the left corner of the goal post. That’s all I can say about their new contest. Another interesting contest #22 of 2022 is live and streaming online, click here to book your tickets ASAP.
Little bit of commentary is must according to the theme of the contest. There are plenty of sport movies and I have seen many of them. In fact, all of them are extra-ordinary and a wonderful story-line. It is so difficult to choose one of them.
Dangal and Sultan are worth watching, mainly because of star actors, superb acting and heart touching stories respectively. Both of them are about wrestling. Dangal is just awesome and hits emotionally, so easy to make someone cry. Promotes and encourage women empowerment. Sultan on the other hand was a romantic sports movie of a wrestler. Shaolin Soccer is very funny and mixture of two sports: Martial Arts & Soccer. I have seen this movie multiple times and they never disappointed me, always had fun watching it again and again.
After so much of thinking and looking at the guidelines of the contest, I have chosen “Lagaan” as my favorite sports movie. There are several reasons behind it.
One of the reason is cricket. Being a Pakistani, cricket is in our blood. We have so much of craze and passion for cricket. Doesn’t matter if I am a good player or not, I used to watch and play cricket a lot. It’s in our roots and this movie has shown the reflection of those roots.
Lagaan is all about cricket, it was so well scripted and directed that almost looks like based on a true story. The atmosphere of the movie is so real and acting doesn’t look acting. As if they are playing for a real match. Just as we used to play at porch or in gali and gets so excited, anxious for the win.
There is too much to learn from this movie, very inspiring and motivating. A common farmer was challenged and he accepted it just to save the village. In order to get success, he worked hard to make a team and at the same time, learned to play cricket in a very short period of time. Most importantly, he was so confident and sure for the win just because of the trust of his people and trusting his hard work. He defeated the experts and experienced team with the help of his inexperienced team. All of those emotional moments are priceless and worth a watch.
Someone has well said about this sport: Cricket is a gentlemen’s game and it truly is.
