Play2Earn gaming : Need the shift towards Fun2Own gaming.

The real test of a product and project happens when the market conditions are not favorable. Play2Earn games under the crypto waves keep expanding and their tokens keep touching the new heights, notable is Axie Infinity, AXS token which at peak crossed $160 mark and now sitting at range of $4. Same happened with the popular blockchain game Splinterland's SPS token that is now trading at couple of pennies having seen the all time of high above $1.

Is gaming industry shrinking ?

Though the market cap of the web3/play2earn game shrinked but overall outlook for gaming industry is net positive. There were various shortcoming in Play2earn model that is used by current game developers.
Either Play2 Earn model need to be fixed or a better narrative need to be created so that blockchain gaming get the audience from mainstream gaming. In current Play2Earn model , it do not have any external source of income apart from game tokenomics (like income from sponsorship, TV rights etc.) so Play2Earn model become heavily dependent on the "new" player influx . When market starts tumbling with all the bad news of Luna crash, FTX debacle , interest and investment in crypto starts waning and it affected all including Play2Earn games.

Fun to Own Narrative : Fun2Own

Blockchain gaming still has upper hand as it allows user to own the assets in the game and user are free to sell and gift their assets. Assets listing and Asset ownership is maintained in blockchain ledger that gives transparency which is not available in traditional gaming.

But Blockchain gaming is currently lacking the "fun" aspect and which is one of the primary goals of the gaming. Once the games become more interactive and fun instead of daily grind then current "Play2earn" will be added advantage on top of it.

Is it hard to have "Fun" Blockchain games.

I am not sure who will going to lead this path, is it our experienced and existing blockchain game developer or it will be the new set of developer who will integrate the games with blockchain.
As far industry is considered , it is already aware of it and "Unity" game Engine provides lot of offering to integrate game with blockchain. In one of the news I have read that Unity itself collaborating with development of digital trading card game and yes focus will be entertainment.

So I guess , we can embrace ourselves to see a lot of new and fun games in coming days.
