Progressive Stadium: Home of the Cleveland Guardians!
Took the lady to her first ballgame since she had been a Clevelander, something that was long overdue.
Progressive stadium is home to the Cleveland Indians Guardians, and had been around since the early mid 90s, I'm thinking 1994, although it was called Jacobs Field-you know before every city had all these goofy sponsorships everywhere...I mean, the place where the Cavs played was called "Quicken Loans Arena" for years!... it doesn't get much worse than that. I'm sure it does though, please wow me with your most awfully-named sponsored local stadium or arena!
Plus, what a misnomer..."Progressive Field?" I couldn't find one unisex bathroom-and as far as I know, it's still only men only allowed to play on the team!
The stadium experience itself was very smooth, although the event was criminally under-attended. My estimate was 10% capacity, although most of my field pics were taken after the game.
It was a chilly night, with a bit of wind coming in, as the city is on the coast of Lake Erie.
You can see the Terminal Tower all lit up in the background, the former second-tallest building in the world, still going strong after almost 100 years.
Couple more views from outside.
I got some decently priced seats that made our nosebleed a little, but it was a pretty good view behind home plate-way out of reach of any foul balls, however. Let's just say I didn't need to bring my glove!
Fans exiting after a WIN!... It was a good game. Not a lot of action, other than a run in the first inning by Tampa Bay, then no hits until the 8th inning, where were able to tie it up and then get the winning run, a momentum shift that was very exciting to witness!
It was a fun visit, hadn't been to a game in about 5 years or so!
They already clinched the division title, so it's off to the playoffs for the Guardians, where I hear they will likely face....Tampa Bay! They have the youngest team in baseball, with 18 rookies in their roster (don't quote me, my boss was telling me this the other day), and also the youngest team since the mid 80s.
Good luck to the Guardians for their playoff run... Let's see if they can shake that "Indians curse!"
