Karate's first day
I am very happy because my son finally found his way in sports. We had gone through several disciplines and even karate itself when he was five years old, but on that occasion, he was not captivated. I think the teacher was more focused on the students who had been practicing the sport for a while than on the newer ones. I suppose there should be a balance.
Lately, because of the school holidays, I have been a little worried because I didn't see my son doing anything productive. He just spent the whole day in front of the computer, playing Roblox or watching YouTube videos. Some, quite educational, but others, terribly useless and pointless.
In this sense, there is little I could do because I work in an office all day long and we live alone and we are really alone from every point of view. He counts on me no more. Hence my concern, because although I was asking him to practice the English language, which he understands it very well, but he needs to practice because his pronunciation is the last thing 😂.
And I have not been able to enroll him in another sport for economic reasons. So it was time to take a deep breath.
Luck came exactly a week ago, on Friday of last week, when I met a friend of mine and we got to talk, while having a coffee, at my house. My friend, Hans, is a Karate Sensei and he told me that he was in a small, but very comfortable space, giving Karate classes in a place near my house.
I noticed that, in the middle of our conversation, he often turned to look at Gabriel, my son, who was on the laptop. In one of those moments, he asked me: “Ali, what sport does Gabriel practice?” I answered that I didn't practice any sport. When he asked me why, I told him it was economical and he asked me if I would like him to practice karate. Of course, I answered yes and he said, “Before you ask me how much the registration and monthly fee is, I will tell you that Gabriel is going to belong to the Dojo on a scholarship.
We asked Gabriel if he wanted to study this discipline and his response was to open his eyes wide and answer, without hesitation, that he did.
Hans explained to him that he would enter the Dojo with a scholarship because he knew he was an excellent student, but that he had to maintain his good academic level. And so it was that three days later, Gabriel attended his first class.
I can say that I have not seen my son so motivated and so happy for a long time. He told me that Hans is an extraordinary Sensei, very dedicated and attentive to each of his students. You can see that he loves his profession. I love to see the direction my son's life is taking. I know he will be a great athlete because he has already found his path.
This is how I deliver my first post in this community, which I am sure will be the first of many. I am a proud mom who wants the world to know.
