Delicious breakfast, visiting Buddha Garden,Paa Daeng Gate,The statue and tomb place of Saohpa of Jengtung State, Mahamuni Buddha shrine, Keng Tung palace and Nong Tung Lake
Dear friends,
Yesterday morning started with delicious traditional noodle from the hotel. Here in Shan State,we serve and eat noodle in a vierity of ways depending on the location and Keng Tung has its own style of preparing noodle unlike those from other parts of Shan State. And those noodles have different names and this local traditional noodle is called ၶဝ်ႈသဵၼ်ႈ or just Keng Tung noodle. It is prepared with delicious chicken soup and contains some pork also. Here, altough there was no other meal to choose, I was happy with the way they prepared and served the food in a special delicious way.
Then, at about 9.30 AM, I went to Buddha garden, which was about 18 miles from town. It was foggy in the morning and I wasn't able to see the sun. Buddha garden is a place, where buildings were built like those in Nepal and India, where Lord Buddha was born, taught Dhamma and attained Parinirvana. Significant buildings that reflects the life of Buddha can be seen there - like where He was born, where He got enlightenment, where He preached His first Dhamma and where He attained Nirvana. It is a wide areas on a hill where there are many pine trees, cherry trees and strawberry plantations. The artwork of wood and stone there are beautiful and amazing. There are also stone gardens where many manuscripts of Sayardaws were inscriped on stones. It is a beautiful place and should be visited when you visit Keng Tung (It is also spelled Kyaing Tong).
Then, in the evening, I walked to nearby places which were on the same route. Those were Paa Daeng Gate, the statue and tomb place of Saohpa of Jengtung State, Mahamuni Buddha shrine, Keng Tung palace and Nong Tung Lake.
The first place I visited was Paa Daeng Gate. In the past when Shan Saopha ruled, Keng Tung was surround by moate with 12 gates and this gate is the only left one.
Then, I continued to walk to the statue of Saopha Keng Tung named Sao Maha Hkanan. He was the 35th Saopha Luong of Jengtung State and ruled from (A.D 1813 to 1857). And I found his tombplace at the other side of the street.
After that, I walked to Maha Myatmuni Buddha shrine and then to Keng Tung palace. This palace was reconstructed recently; the original one was demolished by the military regime in around 1991. It is a sad fact that an ancient artifact building was destroyed. Then, after I walked around the Nong Tung lake, I returned to the hotel.
The following photos are those of Keng Tung palace, rebuilt recently.
When I arrived back at the hotel, I meditated for one hour.
Those are some of the activities for yesterday.
