F1 in Hungaroring 2014

Hi,
in this post I will go back in time. It is 2014 and we are packing our bags. My girlfriend and I are going on vacation. We rush to the train station to Košice. Our final destination is the capital of Hungary - Budapest.
I was looking forward to this holiday a little more. In addition to visiting the city and getting to know its history, we plan to visit the F1 race. Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring circuit. That is also the topic of my post.
I've been watching Formula 1 since I was twelve years old. It was a time when Michael Schumacher for Ferrari and Mika Häkkinen for Mclearen fought for the victory. My friends from the street and I took bikes after each big prize, invented a track and raced. Of course we all wanted to be either Schumacher or Häkkinen. Thinking about it now brings a smile to my face. I have always dreamed of being on the circuit and seeing the race with my own eyes. Soak up the atmosphere and experience the action of F1 live. And right now it is becoming a reality.
From our accommodation in the city center, we take the metro to the bus stop, from where buses should take us to the Hungaroring circuit. It is located 20 kilometers from Budapest. The track is 4.381 kilometers long and due to the fact that it is narrow and has a lot of slow turns, it is difficult to overtake on it. Along with the track in Monaco, it is among the slowest in the F1 calendar.
We perform in a large parking lot. The bus stops here for a while, waiting for people returning to Budapest. But everyone goes to the race and not back. No wonder he leaves empty-handed. The parking lots around the circuit are filling up and we pass through the entrance gate.
We still have time before the start of the race. We walk around the neighborhood and think about which souvenir we would like to buy as a memory. The possibilities are truly endless and every fan will find something here. Even t-shirts and caps from the older days. For example, the Renault team here offers t-shirts from the time when Fernando Alonso won two world championships in its colors.
I have to go back a day. We were already on the track yesterday. That's when the qualification takes place and of course we couldn't miss it. I'm lucky that my girlfriend also likes F1 races quite a bit and enjoys watching them. It was even her idea to go on this vacation because she knew that seeing an F1 race had always been a dream of mine.
But I will go back to the qualification. The green light came on in the pit lane, which is a sure sign that qualifying has just begun. Single-seaters take to the track and try to achieve the fastest possible time in order to start the race from the highest possible position. The ranking on the first rungs this season is mostly occupied by the drivers of the Red Bull, Mercedes and Ferrari teams.
Hungary shows that it is preparing a surprise for us and it is coming gradually. Kimi Räikkönen from Ferrari is not doing well and will only start from 17th place. It's a shame, because Ferrari is the team I keep my fingers crossed for.
People are having fun, everyone is holding and cheering on the rider they are keeping their fingers crossed for. A group with Mercedes caps sits in front of us, and Red Bull fans sit right next to them. However, the Danish fans clearly have the upper hand in our stands, who loudly encourage their favorite - Kevin Magnussen from McLaren.
Something is happening on the track. Right in front of our grandstand, which is at the beginning of the finish line, Lewis Hamilton's engine caught fire. His Mercedes headed for the pits, but Lewis stopped the car on the pit lane.
I am looking forward to the Grand Prix even more after this incident. For sure, Hamilton and Räikkönen will try to fight as far forward as possible and there will be a lot of overtaking maneuvers. Although this track is not quite built for them.

Going back to race day. There are still a few hours until the start of the Grand Prix, but we are taking our seats. Before the F1 race, there are accompanying events on the program. And today's race is the Porsche Supercup. It is also creating the right atmosphere before the start of the F1 race.
The moment we look forward to the most is approaching and that is the F1 race. But even before that, a festive ceremony awaits us, which also includes the introduction of the riders. All the riders boarded the truck with an open siding. They drive the truck around the entire track to the unceasing applause of the fans. Meanwhile, the moderator interviews individual riders. They show them on a large screen so that we don't miss anything. Thanks to it, we have an overview of what is happening on the part of the track that we cannot see.
Cars they are in starting positions, but for now there are mechanics around them. They wait until the last moment to put on the tires and warm them up as long as possible. It's time for the mechanics to put on the tires and leave the track. Shortly after that, the car of Rosberg, who starts from pole position, moved. No one is trying to overtake anyone at the moment. We are from the warm-up lap, where each driver tries to warm up his tires to the desired temperature. The better he warms them up, the better their driving characteristics will be.
And it's here! Chills run down my spine when I see all those cars standing ready at the start. For now, the red lights are on. We are all waiting for them to go out, not even breathing. The lights went out and the cars started. For the former, it is important to keep the first place in the first corner. The other cars have a lot to do to fit into the first corner without crashing into each other. At the same time, riders must try to improve their positions, or at least maintain the ones they have now.
The start went well and there was no major accident. Riders on the first rungs more or less kept their positions. The start was the best for Lewis Hamilton, who improved by several places.
The riders lined up behind each other and here and there there is a hint of an overtaking maneuver. The front of the race creates a small lead.
After a few laps, the stands will be silent. At least ours. On the big screen, we see a single-seater that has left the track and is coming back from the gravel with problems. It's a McLaren. But who does it belong to? When the name is shown, the vast majority of fans in the stands shout Magnusen! As we all look at the usually rowdy fans from Denmark. It is those who tirelessly shouted his name during training and qualification and significantly disturbed others, who are somehow silent.
Magnusen went to the pits to change tires and continues. The laps pass slowly and faster drivers from the back positions, such as Hamilton or Räikkönen, gradually work their way to the front.
I realized that we are sitting in very good places. Directly below us, Hülkenberg missed the turn and ended up in the barrier.
The safety car comes out of the pits. Who can use this fact to replace the tires. The starting field lined up again. It's a chance for those in the back to get ahead.
During the race, we have yet another accident right on the finish line. It's a Caterham single seater. There is no help, the safety car has to go on the track again and the race is getting messy.
Time passes very quickly and before we know it, we no longer have Rosberg's two safety cars at the front, but Fernando Alonso in a Ferrari. Behind him is already Hamilton on Mercedes and Daniel Ricciardo on Red Bull is chasing this pair. One would not even believe how it can be mixed.
Daniel Ricciardo is the fastest of this trio. It doesn't take long and he overtakes Hamilton and later Alonso. He has his hands full to keep Hamilton behind him.
In the end, he succeeds and crosses the finish line in second place. I'm really looking forward to it, it's a shame that he didn't finish first.
The cars headed into the pit lane. The first three riders take a breather and go to the podium for decoration.
Meanwhile, the gates opened and people ran out onto the track. Everyone wants to see their hero up close and take some souvenir. I took a piece from the tire, of which there are many on the track.

Ahoj,
v tomto príspevku sa vrátim v čase. Píše sa rok 2014 a my si balíme kufre. S priateľkou sa chystáme na dovolenku. Ponáhľame sa na vlakovú stanicu do Košíc. Našou cieľovou destináciou je hlavné mesto Maďarska – Budapešť.
Na túto dovolenku som sa tešil o niečo viac. Okrem prehliadky mesta a oboznámení sa s jeho históriou máme v pláne navštíviť preteky F1. Veľká cena Maďarska na okruhu Hungaroring. To je zároveň téma môjho príspevku.
Formulu 1 pozerám už hádam od mojich dvanástich rokov. Bol to čas kedy o víťazstvo bojovali predovšetkým Michael Schumacher za Ferrari a Mika Häkkinen za Mclearen. S kamarátmi z ulice sme si po každej veľkej cene zobrali bicykle, vymysleli sme si trať a pretekali sme sa. Samozrejme sme všetci chceli byť buď Schumacher alebo Häkkinen. Keď si na to teraz spomínam, behá mi úsmev po tvári. Vždy som sníval o tom byť na okruhu a vidieť preteky na vlastné oči. Nasať tú atmosféru a zažiť dianie F1 naživo. A práve teraz sa to stáva realitou.
Z nášho ubytovania v centre mesta sa metrom presúvame na autobusovú zastávku, z ktorej by nás mali autobusy previesť na okruh Hungaroring. Ten sa nachádza 20 kilometrov od Budapešti. Trať je dlhá 4,381 kilometrov a vďaka tomu že je úzka a má množstvo pomalých zákrut sa na nej zle predbieha. Spolu s traťou v Monaku patrí medzi najpomalšie v kalendári F1.
Vystupujeme na veľkom parkovisku. Autobus tu chvíľu stojí, čaká na ľudí ktorí sa vracajú do Budapešti. Ale veď každý ide na preteky a nie ešte späť. Nečudo, že odchádza prázdny. Parkoviská v okolí okruhu sa zapĺňajú a my prechádzame vstupnou bránou.
Do začiatku pretekov máme ešte čas. Prechádzame sa po okolí a rozmýšľame, ktorý suvenír by sme si na pamiatku kúpili. Možností je naozaj neúrekom a každý fanúšik si tu niečo nájde. Dokonca aj tričká a šiltovky zo starších čias. Napríklad tým Renault tu ponúka tričká z čias kedy za jeho farby získal Fernando Alonso dva tituly majstra sveta.
Musím sa vrátiť o deň dozadu. Na okruhu sme boli už aj včera. Vtedy prebieha kvalifikácia a tú sme si samozrejme nemohli nechať ujsť. Mám to šťastie, že aj priateľka má preteky F1 celkom rada a baví ju ich sledovať. Dokonca bol to jej nápad ísť na túto dovolenku pretože vedela, že vidieť preteky F1 bol vždy môj sen.
Ale vrátim sa späť ku kvalifikácii. V boxovej uličke sa rozsvietilo zelené svetlo, čo je neklamný znak, že sa nám kvalifikácia práve začala. Monoposty vychádzajú na trať a snažia sa dosiahnuť čo najrýchlejší čas, aby v pretekoch odštartovali z čo najvyššej priečky. Poradie na prvých priečkach v tejto sezóne obsadzujú poväčšine jazdci tímov Red Bull, Mercedes a Ferrari.
Maďarsko ukazuje, že pre nás chystá prekvapenie a to postupne prichádza. Kimimu Räikkönenovi z Ferrari sa nedarí a štartovať bude až zo 17. miesta. Je to škoda, pretože práve Ferrari je team, ktorému držím palce.
Ľudia sa bavia, každý drží a povzbudzuje jazdca ktorému drží palce. Pred nami sedí skupinka so šiltovkami Mercedesu a hneď vedľa nich sedia fanúšikovia Red Bullu. Prevahu na našej tribúne však majú jednoznačne Dánski fanušíkovia, ktorý hlasito pozbudzujú svojho favorita – Kevina Magnussena z McLarenu.
Na trati sa niečo deje. Priamo pred našou tribúnou, ktorá je na začiatku cieľovej rovinky začal Lewisovi Hamiltonovi horieť motor. Jeho Mercedes zamieril do boxov, no Lewis odstavil auto na boxovej uličke.
Po tomto incidente sa na Veľkú cenu teším ešte viac. Istotne sa bude Hamilton a Räikkönen snažiť prebojovať čo najviac dopredu a bude tu veľa predbiehacích manévrov. Aj keď táto trať pre ne nie je celkom stavaná.

Vraciam sa späť na deň pretekov. Do štartu Veľkej ceny je ešte niekoľko hodín, no my si sadáme na naše sedadlá. Pred pretekmi F1 sú na programe sprievodné podujatia. A tým dnešným sú preteky Porsche Supercup. Je to také navodenie tej správnej atmosféry pred začiatkom pretekov F1.
Blíži sa chvíľa na ktorú sa najviac tešíme a to sú preteky F1. No ešte predtým nás čaká slávnostná ceremónia ktorej súčasťou je aj predstavenie jazdcov. Všetci jazdci nastúpili na kamión s otvorenou vlečkou. Kamiónom prechádzajú okolo celej trate za neutíchajúceho potlesku fanúšikov. Medzitým robí moderátor rozhovory s jednotlivými jazdcami. Tie premietajú na veľkoplošnej obrazovke, aby sme o nič neprišli. Vďaka nej máme prehľad o tom čo sa deje na tej časti trate, na ktorú nevidíme.
Autá sú na štartovacích pozíciách, no zatiaľ sú okolo nich mechanici. S nasadením pneumatík čakajú do poslednej chvíle a kým sa dá tak ich vyhrievajú. Nadišiel čas pre mechanikov nasadiť pneumatiky a odísť z trate. Krátko na to sa pohol monopost Rosberga, ktorý štartuje z pole pozition. Nikto sa ešte v tejto chvíli nesnaží kohokoľvek predbehnúť. Sme z zahrievacom kole, kde sa každý jazdec snaží zahriať svoje pneumatiky na požadovanú teplotu. Čím lepšie ich zahreje, tým budú mať lepšie jazdné vlastnosti.
A je to tu! Mráz mi behá po chrbte keď vidím všetky tie autá stáť pripravené na štarte. Zatiaľ svietia červené svetlá. Všetci čakáme kým zhasnú, ani nedýchame. Svetla zhasli a autá vyštartovali. Pre prvého je dôležité udržať si prvé miesto v prvej zákrute. Ostatné autá majú čo robiť aby sa do prvej zákruty zmestili bez toho aby do seba nenabúrali. Pritom sa musia jazdci snažiť zlepšiť si svoje pozície, alebo aspoň udržať tie ktoré majú teraz.
Štart sa vydaril a k žiadnej väčšej nehode nedošlo. Jazdci na prvých priečkach si viac menej udržali svoje pozície. Štart sa najlepšie vydaril Lewisovi Hamiltonovi, ktorý si polepšil o niekoľko miest.
Jazdci sa zoradili za seba a sem tam prichádza k náznaku predbiehacieho manévru. Čelo pretekov si vytvára malý náskok.
O niekoľko kôl tribúny stíchnu. Aspoň tá naša. Na veľkoplošnej obrazovke vidíme monopost, ktorý opustil trať a s problémami sa vracia zo štrku späť. Je to McLaren. Ale komu patrí? Keď sa zobrazí meno, veľká väčšina fanúšikov z tribúny skríkne Magnusen! Pričom sa všetci pozeráme na zvyčajne hlučných fanúšikov z Dánska. Práve tí, ktorí neúnavne kričali jeho meno počas tréningov aj kvalifikácie a výrazne rušili ostatných, sú akosi ticho.
Magnusen zašiel na výmenu pneumatík do boxov a pokračuje ďalej. Kolá pomaly ubiehajú a rýchlejší jazdci zo zadných pozícií, akými sú napríklad Hamilton či Räikkönen sa postupne prepracuvávajú dopredu.
Prišiel som na to, že sedíme na veľmi dobrých miestach. Priamo pod nami nevybral zákrutu Hülkenberg a skončil v bariére.
Z boxov vychádza safety car. Kto môže tak túto skutočnosť využíva na prezutie pneumatík. Štartové pole sa opäť zoradilo za sebou. Je to šanca pre tých, ktorí sa nachádzajú na zadných pozíciách dostať sa dopredu.
Počas pretekov máme ešte ďalšiu nehodu priamo na cieľovej rovinke. Je to monopost Caterham. Niet pomoci, na trať musí ísť opäť safety car a preteky sa nám zamotávajú.
Čas ubieha veľmi rýchlo a ani sa nenazdáme a na čele už nemáme po dvoch safety car Rosberga, ale Fernanda Alonsa na Ferrari. Za ním už je Hamilton na Mercedese a túto dvojicu stíha Daniel Ricciardo na Red Bulle. Človek by ani neveril ako sa to môže premiešať.
Daniel Ricciardo je z tejto trojice najrýchlejší. Netrvá dlho a predbieha Hamiltona a neskôr aj Alonsa. Ten má plné ruky práce udržať za sebou Hamiltona.
Nakoniec sa mu to darí a cieľom prechádza na druhom mieste. Ja sa tomu veľmi teším, škoda že neskončil prvý.
Autá zamierili do boxovej uličky. Prvý traja jazdci si trochu vydýchnu a idú na pódium na dekorovanie.
Medzitým sa otvorili brány a ľudia vybehli na trať. Každý chce vidieť svojho hrdinu zblízka a vziať si nejaký ten suvenír. Ja som si vzal kúsok z pneumatiky, ktorých je na trati veľmi veľa.
