Sport Photography: Czech National Flyboarding Championship
Hey there my Hive friends and followers!
A couple of days ago, I was really surprised when I found out that the little pond that is literally just a few minutes walk from our apartment here in the suburbs of Prague would host the Czech National Flyboarding Championship. The event took place last Saturday and it was so close to our apartment that we could actually hear the presenter talking to the mike from our balcony. But of course we headed out to the pond as well to see what all the fuss was about.
If you haven´t heard of flyboarding before, you might want to check out this article from Wikipedia. It´s a new water sport that was invented as recently as in 2012 but it has been getting popular in many parts of the world lately. It looks very cool as it indeed gives the impression that the flyboard riders are kind of flying :)
We stopped by the pond to see the performance of a couple of competitors and it was quite a spectacle but the photos that I took there for you guys are far from spectacular, unfortunately. In my previous posts, I have mentioned several times already that we have been having an unusually sunny and warm September this year but on that day, the weather was horrible. It was so dark and cloudy that the pictures almost look as if they were taken at night :D :/ I did my best but the post processing didn´t help much. I will still show you though as it´s not a sport that you get to see every day...
I hope you got some idea of what this sport looks like from these shots despite their poor quality. I was thinking about putting them into monochrome, which is a trick I sometimes use when I end up shooting under extremely cloudy skies, but it looked even worse so I left them in the colored form.
By the way, if you wonder what that huge pipe is, that´s actually a tube connecting two stations of the Prague subway. I guess the subway constructors didn´t want to dig deep under the pond so they decided to build this section of the route up in the air instead. Looks pretty cool, I know :)

It was quite the show indeed actually, the guys were turning epic mid-air somersaults with ease... I think I should have taken a video too :/
The sport looks intense but fun! It's something I see only in movies. Too bad, these pictures would have been awesome if the sun didn't decide to take a break. Eitherway, I totally get what the sport is about from the pictures. I'm glad you shared😇
Well, I have already seen some flyboarders before but I didn´t pay much attention to them back then. Now I know what this sport is about :) Yeah, you are right, the pictures would be so much better if the weather was sunny that day :/

Yeah, the organizers were really unlucky in terms of weather. I mean it was sunny before that day and after that day too, just Saturday was ugly :D :/ The pictures would look much better too. But national championship is something you cannot shift so easily I guess...

Yesterday I was seeing a vedio on YouTube as you know Youtube is flooded with such vedios where a skilled person could ride on fly board.
Watching this, is very interesting and amazing. I was really surprised that how they fly on water like this.

Wow, that is pretty cool. I have never seen one of these in person, but I have seen them on TV along the beach and stuff like that. It's pretty ingenious.
Yeah, it looks very cool. I think I saw these guys along the Caribbean beaches in Mexico but I´m not 100% sure, there were many people doing all kinds of crazy things :D Thanks for stopping by mate!
Very nice pictures, I didn't think anyone could organize a national flyboarding championship, from your pictures I can tell that those who do this stuff are professionals.
I say this because I saw flyboarding on the sea in Romania as a hobby, but it was quite hard for them to keep their balance.
Ah, I know what you mean... That the sport is still too new and that there wouldn´t be enough competitors for a championship. Obviously not the case in my country :) Those guys´ skills were really impressive, I was amazed :)
So far I've only seen flyboarding in TV, so I consider you lucky :) It must have been nice to see then live and also shoot a few photos.

Watching flyboarding on television fills like it's all a trick.
But seeing it as a sport has refreshed my mind making me fill like trying it someday, that is if my heart is not gonna jump out my body🙈🫣
Right! Those guys flying mid air all over the pond did feel like some kind of fake so when I got back home, I did a bit of research to find out how exactly this thing works. Just a very powerful stream of water, that´s it. Just like when you get splashed by a stubborn garden hose :)

All these places are looking very beautiful and I have never experienced anything like this in my life. These scenic places are very beautiful. Cloud's looks so beautiful and amazing.
What scenic places? This post is about a water sport called flyboarding. What are you talking about?
Na to, že to boli majstrovstvá tam veľa fanúšikov nebolo, ale ja by som si teda určite išla pozrieť. Nikdy v živote by som to neskúsila, ale obdivovanie by som si užila 🙂 nepoužívaš žiadny editor na fotky? Tam by si si to vedel trochu presvetliť..
Inak, super, že to bolo tak blízko a mohla si to užiť aj tvoja vysoko tehotná pani 🙂 už si sa rozhodol, či pôjdeš do Krakova?
Taky jsem si říkal, že je tam nějak málo lidí, ale to se dalo čekat už jen proto, že se to odehrávalo tady u rybníka na kraji Prahy :D Očividně to ještě moc prestižní záležitost není :D Ale ti kluci byli moc šikovní, to zase jo! Editor používám vždy, už několik let upravuju všechny fotky, které sem dávám (většinu z nich pak nahrávám ještě i na ShutterStock, takže se snažím, aby byly co nejkvalitnější), ale v tomto případě ani postprocesing moc nepomohl. Bylo fakt extrémně zataženo a fotit se navíc muselo přesně proti sluníčku, teda tam, kde by to sluníčko bylo, kdyby ty nebyly mraky :D Takže světelné podmínky fakt naprosto zoufalé, zvlášť pro můj starý mobil :D :/
Ten Krakow asi rozhodneme až těsně před tím dnem, podle toho, jak se bude moje drahá polovička cítit. Ale oba doufáme, že to klapne a že budu moct jet ;)

Hi bro! This sport is a sensation and is becoming more and more remarkable, but it is really little that can be appreciated, in fact I've only been able to see it on screen and never live. It's great that you had the opportunity to have it close to home and better yet, that you have captured these incredible moments in pictures, they all look very cool, both the athletes and the place where the event took place. Oh, sad the weather didn't helped you to take good photos. I know this sport, in many beaches here in Venezuela you can practiced it, well, it's not free, you pay, they give you the instructions and then you go into the water and see if you can do it 🤣🤣🤣 it doesn't look very easy to do, you must have some habilities I think and good physical shape but must be fun 😃🧚
Well, it did look easy when watching the competitors but I can imagine how much hard work and practise was behind their performances. Just like in any other sport ;)
