Leicester City vs Chelsea: Analysis, Prediction and Betting Tips
It's back to the Premier League next week and there are a few big games for our enjoyment.
One of those is Leicester City vs Chelsea on Saturday, and both sides are doing their best to finish in the top 4 this season and earn a Champions League spot next season.
Within this post, you'll find a recent form guide for both teams, pre-match analysis of squad injuries and strategies, alongside a match prediction and some betting tips.
Form Guide
Leicester City
Leicester have clearly had a great start to the season and have put themselves in a strong position to finish in the top 4. Nevertheless, they've been stuttering recently and have seemingly found it difficult to be as consistent as they were earlier in the season.
They're currently sat in 3rd place in the Premier League on 48 points, 8 points clear of Chelsea in 4th spot and 3 points behind 2nd placed Manchester City. They've scored 52 times in the league this season, an average of 2.17 goals per game. They've conceded 25 times, an average of 1.04 goals per game.
In their previous 5 league games, Leicester won 3 and lost 2.
Chelsea
Chelsea started well this season under the guidance of new manager Frank Lampard. At one point, they were being spoken about as potential title candidates but this quickly faded away. Chelsea have been struggling for form lately but seem to be doing just enough to hold the chasing pack off for now.
They currently sit in 4th place in the league, 8 points behind 3rd placed Leicester and 6 points clear of 5th placed Manchester United. Chelsea have scored 41 times in the league this season, an average of 1.71 goals per game. Defensively, they've conceded 32 times, an average of 1.33 goals per game.
In their previous 5 league games, Chelsea won 2, drew 2, and lost 1.
Head to Head
In the previous 10 meetings between the clubs, Leicester won 1, Chelsea won 5, and there were 4 draws.
Historically, Leicester have not done well in this fixture.
Pre-Match Analysis
Leicester City
Leicester will be over the moon with the progress they've made this season. They were never really going to be too much threat for the title but they have a great chance to qualify for the Champions League next season.
Although losing this game wouldn't be a massive blow to that, winning it would be a massive step towards that goal. One of the issues they have is that Vardy is an injury worry but reports suggest he could be back in time for this fixture.
Tactically, Leicester will look to hit Chelsea quickly on the break with Maddison pulling the strings and Vardy working his magic up top. With the home crowd behind them and Chelsea's rough patch of form, they have a good chance to get something out of this game.
Chelsea
Chelsea are currently looking pretty good in 4th place but they've struggled in recent weeks and should have quite a few more points than they do. It's not too much of an issue just yet but they can't afford to drop more points before the crunch fixture against Manchester United next month.
With Abraham a potential miss for this, they do look a bit light in the attacking department. However, they have enough quality all over the pitch to cause Leicester issues. As always, Kante will be the guy to watch out for as his control of midfield, or lack thereof is usually the difference between a positive or negative result.
Prediction
This is one of those games that could go either way and the odds reflect that in their balance. Chelsea are perhaps the slight favourites but with their current form, I believe Leicester will get something out of the game.
Betting Tips
- At odds of 2.70 or above, Leicester look favourable here.
- Over 2.5 goals at 1.60 or above is also tempting.
Nice post :-)
Cheers bud. Used to do these posts on another platform so figured it was time to boot the series back up.
My dad's a big Leeds supporter, by the way. Reckon your boys will come up this year?
I think so, but obviously, after the last few weeks, we are all nipping our cheeks. A lot will depend on a getting a decent striker in during this window who gets up to speed quickly. Bamford costs us far too many points by not scoring!
Keep up with the posts!! This is the sort of thing we are trying to encourage on here. Best wishes mate.
