Chelsea Women made a huge statement towards capturing her 3rd ever league title when she completed a season double on league title holder Arsenal Women, The Blues defeated The Gunners for the often time at their backyard Meadow Park 4-1 on Sunday, having also defeated the Gunners 2-1 at home Kingsmeadow in the reverse fixture last October. It is now 3 straight league defeat(1-4, 1-2 & 1-2) for the Gunners at the hand of their London rival.

While the majority of the football attention in the country is fixed on Liverpool Men winning the EPL title for the 1st time in 30 years, the Women league(FA Women Super League) hots up with 3 teams now justling for the title. League leader & 1-time champion Manchester City, title holder & 3-times champion Arsenal and 2018 champion & 2-times champion Chelsea are all having a run-in to the title with just 1 point separating the top 2 clubs from 3rd.

The Gunners whose only defeat of the season was to The Blues last October and has been in impeccable form since struggled to deal with Chelsea's front 2 and were ran ragged within the 1st 20 minutes of the game, conceding 3 quick fired goals from Beth England(10'), Sam Karr(13') & Sophie Ingle(20'). Guro Reiten(68') completed the rout for Chelsea while Arsenal's consolatory goal came through Bethany Mead(74').

The Blues who had also handed Manchester City Women her only defeat of the campaign with a 2-1 win last December will be aiming to complete a double on The Citizens too as they lock horns in coming weeks(Feb 23rd).

FA SWL

Arsenal Women are now level on points with Manchester City Women with 33 points each but have lost the top spot on inferior goal difference(Manchester City had earlier assumed top spot with a 2-0 win at Birmingham City Women). Chelsea Women, with a game in hand, have closed the points gap on both City and Arsenal to just 1 point. See full table.

Manchester United Women(4th) and Everton Women(5th), with 2 outstanding games at hand each, scored 3 goals in their respective fixtures(Man Utd 3-0 Spurs & Everton 3-1 Reading) to increase any slight hope of catching up with the runaway leaders.
