Tadej Pogacar reacts calmly to doping accusations

New generation of cyclists

Tomorrow the last Monument in cycling of the year is held in Italy. The Tour of Lombardy is a very hard race in which usually the best man wins. The last three years that was… Tadej Pogacar. Today he held a press conference and was asked questions by a reporter about the doping allegations that go hand in hand with his supremacy.

The Slovenian reacted calmly and understands that the history of the sport has created a sense of doubt with dominating the sport. But he stressed that the current riders are aware of the dangers of doping and don’t want to risk their lives for ten years of fame. He also hopes that the trust of the general public in the riders will return with time.

Armstrong, Riis, Ullrich…

The names doping “villains” from the past are plenty, and these days very little riders get caught. The testing has evolved, but that doesn’t mean that doping in cycling is a thing of the past. I wouldn’t put my hands in the fire for no rider. But I do believe that the level of cheating has dropped dramatically. Because of the testing, but also because of the professionalism of the medical department in th sport these days. The riders are so well trained, so well fed, and guided like never before, that the need for doping has faded.

Let’s hope history proves me right!

Sincerely,
