New Club Brugge stadium finally approved!
15 years of getting “No” for an answer
A hellish ride it has been for Club Brugge, which currently plays in the Jan Breydel Stadium which it shares with city rivals, Cercle Brugge. But the stadium that was built in the early 1970’s, is worn out, thr concrete is rotten, the toilets are hell holes, and the seats don’t have the quality view a modern stadium needs.
So in 2006 Club Brugge applied for a new stadium to be built in a perfect location, but a nest of rare bats ruined it all. The application got denied, and the situation got even worse later.
4 different locations got denied for different reasons, because of neighbours holding it back, a bad mobility plan, some grounds that got bought up by a competitor of the chairman of Club Brugge…
Now the stadium will get built right next to the current stadium, in a very densely populated area. But apparently the mobility plan is very well structured. So, in theory, Club Brugge could start building as of tomorrow.
40000 seater
It will be the most modern stadium of Belgium, with the last new stadium that was realised in Gent in 2014.
It will be an all seater for 40000 people with 2500 VIP seats and lots a hospitality lodges. Surrounded with lots of green a should get a 5 star rating by UEFA because of the perfect view for all fans.
The cost of the stadium is estimated around 250 million EUR.
Apparently if you 15 year patience in Belgium, things can still be realised…
I am glad with this decision, even though I support the city rivals. And I hope it can be a catalyst for other new stadiums in Belgium.
Sincerely,
