Hola, querido hiver.

Al regresar de la compra me he cruzado con un señor que por lo menos tendría los 70 años. Esto no tendría nada de especial, pero es que el hombre iba conduciendo un patinete eléctrico. Habría sido una estupenda imagen de portada, ¿no crees? No he podido evitar volverme a mirarle (mejor dicho, admirarle), presa de la incredulidad. Ver al señor con su típico pantalón de vestir, una camisa de cuadros, gorra de visera en la cabeza y sandalias con calcetines en los pies, montado en su flamante patín.

Esa actitud ante la vida es la que comparto y quiero mantener: ser capaz de adaptarme a la modernidad usándola a mi favor. Formo parte de las últimas generaciones que nacieron en un mundo analógico. Eso tiene un gran valor porque pienso que conocer el pasado nos previene y evita sufrimiento en el futuro. Hubo vida antes de que existiese internet. Sigue habiendo vida fuera de las pantallas. Por eso busco mis espacios de desconexión pero no renuncio a exprimir las múltiples posibilidades que el ciberespacio nos ofrece.

Cuando he desviado la mirada del señor del patinete casi choca conmigo un joven que no ha despegado la vista de su móvil. Le he esquivado a tiempo y el resto de mi trayecto a casa ha tenido como marea de fondo en mis pensamientos la forma de escribir sobre las dos cosas que han resonado conmigo. Un hombre mayor que aprovecha la tecnología y uno joven del cual es la tecnología quien parece aprovecharse, absorbiendo su atención aún a riesgo de su integridad.

Mi reflexión

Nada en este mundo es inmutable. En cualquier momento tenemos el derecho de cambiar el rumbo si eso significa una mejora para nuestra vida. Hasta en los más rancios linajes aristocráticos han existido miembros que se han saltado las estrictas normas en busca de su felicidad. El escándalo que produjeron a su alrededor era en realidad la envidia de no ser capaces de imitarles.

Cuando era joven me parecía que cada elección me lleva por un sendero marcado sin vuelta atrás ni posibilidad de cambios. La pasión por lo que hacía me involucraba de tal manera que convertía mi mundo en un túnel que me impedía ver las infinitas posibilidades de las que disponía a cada momento. Solo busqué una salida de emergencia cuando las cosas me agotaban por completo, ya por necesidad y no como una opción que yo elegía.

Eso ha cambiado por completo. Ahora soy consciente del peligro que corro, tomé buena nota de mis experiencias pasadas y las asumo como aprendizajes que necesité para ser hoy mi mejor versión. Hoy me reconozco en lo que hago, sin que nadie me lo tenga que confirmar.

Tampoco me gustaría convertirme en una suerte de veleta que corre detrás de cada corriente que la roza. Eso es bien difícil de lograr dentro de este mundo de las crytomonedas, donde cada día hay nuevas posibilidades de perderte los nuevos lanzamientos que te harán rico. Quizás si hubiera sido más joven habría sido una presa fácil para los engaños, nunca lo sabremos. Me alegro de que el fenómeno me haya cogido con la madurez suficiente para saber centrarme y tomar decisiones en base a mis valores y experiencia.

Hi, dear hiver.

On my way back from shopping I passed a man who was at least 70 years old. This would be nothing special, but the man was driving an electric scooter. It would have made a great cover image, don't you think? I couldn't help looking at him (or rather, admiring him) in disbelief. Seeing the man in his typical dress trousers, a checked shirt, a peaked cap on his head and sandals with socks on his feet, riding his brand new scooter.

That attitude to life is the one I share and want to keep: to be able to adapt to modernity by using it to my advantage. I am part of the last generations that were born in an analogue world. That has a great value because I think that knowing the past prevents us from suffering in the future. There was life before the internet existed. There is still life outside the screens. That's why I look for my spaces of disconnection but I don't give up on the multiple possibilities that cyberspace offers us.

When I looked away from the man on the scooter I almost bumped into a young man who hadn't taken his eyes off his mobile phone. I dodged him in time and the rest of my journey home had as a background tide in my thoughts the form of writing about the two things that resonated with me. An older man who takes advantage of technology and a young man who seems to be taken advantage of by technology, absorbing his attention even at the risk of his integrity.

My reflection

Nothing in this world is immutable. At any time we have the right to change course if it means an improvement in our lives. Even in the most stale aristocratic lineages there have been members who have broken the strict rules in pursuit of their happiness. The scandal they produced around them was actually envy at not being able to imitate them.

When I was young it seemed to me that every choice I made led me down a marked path with no way back and no possibility of change. The passion for what I was doing involved me in such a way that it turned my world into a tunnel that prevented me from seeing the infinite possibilities available to me at every moment. I only looked for an emergency exit when things exhausted me completely, out of necessity and not as an option of my choice.

That has changed completely. Now I am aware of the danger I am in, I have taken good note of my past experiences and I take them on board as the lessons I needed to be my best version today. Today I recognise myself in what I do, without anyone having to confirm it for me.

Nor would I like to become a sort of weather vane that runs after every current that brushes against it. That is very difficult to achieve in this world of cryptocurrencies, where every day there are new possibilities of missing out on the new releases that will make you rich. Maybe if I had been younger I would have been an easy prey for scams, we will never know. I am glad that the phenomenon has caught me with enough maturity to know how to focus and make decisions based on my values and experience.
