Hola, querido hiver.

En casa siguen mejorando. Hoy se nota más que ayer, Rocky respira más despacio y profundo, como siempre, y mi marido tiene menos dolor e incluso se ha animado a salir un poco de casa. Esto me tranquiliza y me deja la mente mejor preparada para atender mis labores habituales. Por mucho que intentes concentrarte en ellas, de fondo continúa ese runrún de preocupaciones por lo que está fuera de tu mano controlar.

Como contraste el tiempo meteorológico es nublado, fresco y con viento desapacible. No se descarta que caiga alguna gota que apenas servirá para aliviar la sed de la tierra seca, pero que sería bien recibida si al fin aparece.

Todo hábito y facultad se mantiene y acrecienta por medio de las acciones correspondientes: la de pasear, por medio del paseo; la de correr, por medio de la carrera... Por lo tanto, en general, si quieres hacer algo, hazlo habitualmente. Si quieres dejar de hacer algo, no lo hagas, pero acostúmbrate a hacer otra cosa en su lugar. Así pasa también con los estados de ánimo. Cuando te irrites, date cuenta de que no solo te ha pasado esa cosa mala, sino que, además, has acrecentado el hábito y que es como haber echado broza al fuego.

Epicteto.

Mi reflexión

Mi profesión, la terapia ocupacional, me ha enseñado la importancia de los hábitos. En efecto, tal como dicen las palabras de Epicteto, pueden servir para asentar lo que deseamos o modificar lo que consideremos negativo.

Tomaré el ejemplo de la escritura: sé que me expreso con ella mejor que cuando hablo. Me permite repensar, añadir o corregir lo que preciso. Pero por encima de todo eso, me sirve para expresar mis pensamientos y emociones. Esto es algo que no siempre me he atrevido a hacer, lo que tarde o temprano me ha perjudicado. Desde que escribo todos los días, aunque solo sea un poco en un cuaderno que nadie leerá, he encontrado esa felicidad que siempre ha estado conmigo sin que la viera.

Como ejemplo contrario usaré mi éxito al dejar de fumar. Fue fundamental tener preparado un plan con acciones a realizar cada vez que sintiera las ganar de buscar un cigarrillo. Ese cambio de una actividad por otra hizo que mi atención se olvidara en seguida del tabaco y el esfuerzo invertido disminuyó sin darme cuenta.

No he descubierto la pólvora, está claro. Es solo que tengo la ventaja de poder aplicar mis conocimientos tomándome a mí misma como paciente/cliente. Gracias a ellos estoy pareciéndome cada día un poco más a lo que quiero ser.

Por la mañana: tareas domésticas, curación de contenidos, escritura.

Por la tarde: lectura de artículos de blog, eventos en Discord, tareas variadas de Hive, paseo con el perrito.

Hi, dear hiver.

At home they continue to improve. Today is more noticeable than yesterday, Rocky is breathing slower and deeper, as usual, and my husband is in less pain and has even been encouraged to go out of the house a bit. This puts my mind at ease and leaves me better prepared to attend to my usual chores. No matter how hard you try to concentrate on them, in the background there's still that rumble of worry about what's out of your control.

In contrast, the weather is cloudy, cool and windy. A few drops of rain are not to be ruled out, which will hardly serve to alleviate the thirst of the parched earth, but would be welcome if they finally appear.

My reflection

My profession, occupational therapy, has taught me the importance of habits. Indeed, in the words of Epictetus, they can be used to establish what we want or to modify what we consider negative.

I will take the example of writing: I know that I express myself better with it than when I speak. It allows me to rethink, add or correct what I need to. But above all, it allows me to express my thoughts and emotions. This is something I have not always dared to do, which sooner or later has been to my disadvantage. Since I have been writing every day, even if it is only a little in a notebook that nobody will read, I have found that happiness that has always been with me without me seeing it.

As a counter example I will use my success in quitting smoking. It was essential to have a plan prepared with actions to take every time I felt the urge to reach for a cigarette. This change from one activity to another immediately took my attention away from smoking and the effort invested diminished without my noticing it.

I haven't discovered gunpowder, that's for sure. It's just that I have the advantage of being able to apply my knowledge by taking myself as a patient/client. Thanks to them, I am becoming more and more like what I want to be every day.

In the morning: housework, content curation, writing.

Afternoon: reading blog posts, Discord events, various Hive tasks, walking with the puppy.
