A WIN TO KEEP CHELSEA IN MIND // UNA VICTORIA PARA PENSAR EN EL CHELSEA [ENG/ESP]

Gol Case x geta.jpg

"We didn't lose our nerve after the performance against Barcelona. We had to manage that advantage and we did it well. Today could have been a trap game. The team responded well as from the start we were well positioned and we handled the ball properly. We were worried because Getafe beat us in January. After the Champions League you could have left something behind, but the team reacted well".

A very important win for Real Madrid against Getafe at the Santiago Bernabéu on Matchday 31 of LaLiga, a firm step forward for Ancelotti's side in their aspirations to win the domestic championship, a win that was more than hard work against the Blue and Whites, who came out to defend at all times and therefore made it difficult for Ancelotti's side to generate attacking play due to the lack of space.

With the second leg of the quarter-final against Chelsea on the horizon, Carletto took the opportunity to rest Kroos and Modric, sending out an unprecedented midfield that performed superbly; Casemiro, Valverde and Camavinga formed a diligent and dynamic midfield, but we must admit that, without the German and the Croatian, Real Madrid play differently, the way they deal with the ball is not so fine, however adequate it may be.

It was not an easy game for Real Madrid, as Quique Sánchez Flores' side sat deep in their own half, willing to close down the lines and make it impossible for Madrid to find the space to attack. Real Madrid had almost exclusive possession of the ball, but found it difficult to generate attacking volume due to the overcrowding of blue shirts in the lower block.

But Madrid were to find a way through and they did so with an inspired Vinicius, the Brazilian is rediscovering that spark that makes him a deadly and influential player, each time he dares to do more things and each time he executes them better and better. In the 37th minute, Real Madrid's number 20 disguised himself as Luka Modric and produced a superb cross with the outside of his right foot in the purest style of the Croatian, which Benzema failed to get on the end of, but Casemiro did, heading in to make it 1-0 for Los Blancos and his first goal of the season.

From then on Real Madrid would sail on calm waters, Getafe did not even try to propose after the goal from Los Blancos, who managed the tempo and the development of the match to perfection. If anything, Madrid will regret what happened in the 44th minute when Casemiro was shown a yellow card for complaining and will have to miss the all-important visit to Sevilla at the Ramón Sanchéz-Pizjuan.

A perfectly worked two-nil win for the Whites.

The tone in the second half was the same as in the first, nothing changed, Madrid in total possession of the ball and looking for the opening to get the second goal, which would arrive on the 68th minute with a great combination on the right flank, Lucas Vázquez combined with Rodrygo to perfection and the Galician finished intelligently with a pass into the net to sign the definitive 2-0 for Real Madrid.

Minutes after Lucas Vázquez's goal, Ancelotti would make changes to his squad, Gareth Bale entered the pitch to a resounding roar of boos from Real Madrid fans who made their displeasure known. 773 days had gone by before the Welshman - who has the most expensive salary in the Real Madrid squad - played another game for his team at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Madrid's great conquest in LaLiga and now they will have to focus on finishing the job they started against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Carletto's men are allowed to dream!

I'm sure the second leg of the UCL would be interesting and both teams; Real Madrid and Chelsea got their wins which means confidence would be high. Chelsea would need to do more but seeing how confident they would be after thrashing Southampton by 6 goals, I believe it would be an interesting game.

The second leg game on tuesday will be a very good one to watch, I expect a very offensive version of Chelsea trying to score early in the game, as for Real Madrid patience and instensity to recover the ball might be key -as it was in the first leg at the Bridge-. Both got their domestic wins, Chelsea's thrashing over Southampton is key for them to recover mentally after the harsh defeat against Real Madrid.

Yes, that's the best Chelsea can do. Attack early. It would ease them and make them push for more. It's going to be entertaining.

I am expecting them to do so, knowing Tuchel's style; but I sincerely hope Real Madrid go through to the semifinals.

I think Ancelotti did a great job to keep the team calm. Very exciting to see how far this Real can go this season :)

Ancelotti is a master in that specific art of keeping his teams calm. I am so excited as well, I think this Real Madrid can conqueer Europe once again this season.

Ancelotti has done so well with the team and giving Vinicius a full trust has also helped the team so much. I'm sure they'll make it to the UCL Semifinals.

Hello, @nucleus-tezz. I agree on the importance Carlo has had on trusting Vinicius and activating some other players from time to time. I hope Real Madrid make it to the semifinals.

You still hope?
Thinking this Chelsea would bring them down? I don't think so.

Don't get me wrong, I think Real Madrid is fully able to be in the next round (and I think that's almost done!) but matches must be played and I wouldn't like Real Madrid to take the qualification for granted, bro!

This is quite true though but at the same time, I do not want to believe that there'll be any shocker from the match.

I am not expecting any socker from the game either, my dear friend. Let's enjoy today's match in the hope it's a good one and Real Madrid ends up advancing to the semifinals. 🙌
