Can Chelsea Still Make It Out Of Group H In UCL?

avatar

The UEFA champions league game week 5 took place this week and while some clubs are already cleared for the next round, some clubs will still have to wait till the final day of the group game which is the week 6 games and currently now, group H which comprises of Ajax, Valencia, Chelsea and Lille is still wide open for the 3 clubs except Lille which is already out of the competition and while Ajax remain the favourite to make it out with the first position after defeating Lille at home to top the group with 10 points, Chelsea and Valencia had to settle for 8 points respectively after both clubs shared the points in a dramatic manner and will now have to wait for the last game in the group to know their fate.

Chelsea will face Lille in their last group game while it will be Ajax up against Valencia. With the way the group look like now, any two of the three clubs can still make it out of the group while the club that finish third will have to battle it out in the Europa league. Looking at Chelsea chance of making it out of the group, they will have to defeat Lille in their last game and wait for the result of the game between Ajax and Valencia and what can really guarantee their qualification now is for Ajax to defeat Valencia and while Ajax will now have 13 points as the group winner, Chelsea will qualify with the second position with 11 points while Valencia will have to settle for the Europa league.

If there is any reason Chelsea will have to wait for the last game against Lille to know their fate, definitely it is Valencia because the Blues lost their first game at home to Valencia while they were also forced to a 2-2 draw away to Valencia as well. Ajax which look like the group giant now despite showing some drama against the Blues in both home and away games couldn't stop Chelsea but the club failed to get it right against Valencia and will now have to wait on Ajax to seal the qualification for them by defeating Valencia in the last game of the group.

Do you still see Chelsea making it to the next round of the league??

I think Chelsea will get a result against Lille and qualify. As a Spurs fan I’d be quite happy if they do as it’ll mean they can’t focus their entire energy on the league and Chelsea are one of the teams we are chasing for top 4

Oh! Really? So do you still see Tottenham Hotspur making the top 4?

I’m sure that is one of the aims for Mourinho this season. Whether we will or not will depend a lot on if and how quickly he can sure up the defence. As I mentioned in a blog last weekend the true test for Spurs will be when we play United, Bayern and Chelsea in succession. Beating the likes of West Ham and Olympiacos is fine but those teams will be a different challenge. One of the criticisms of Poch as well as not winning trophies was his poor record against the other ‘Big 6’ teams. Again I’ve no doubt that Mourinho was brought in to try and rectify that. Will he do it? Who knows...

I foresee another big game when Mourinho face Lampard.
