Documenting my Splinterlands Knowledge - Rentals Part 14
Hello there.
Welcome to my Rentals post. I am structuring my post based on abilities, and looking at cards that have good value at Bronze levels to help newer players get started. I usually follow a personal filtering system in my rentals, where I look at the price, CP/DEC, abilities, and other things. I went through it in Part 1.
In my last post, I discussed about cards with the Divine Shield ability, this time, I'll be discussing the cards with the Dodge ability.
Let's get to it.
Dodge
Dodge is an ability that grants a monster increased evasion against Melee and Range attack. This can include Magic attacks if the monster also has the Phase ability. The evasion chance is a flat 25 percent, which can work additively with other evasion factors; like Flying, Speed, and Blind. The cards below are the ones that fall within my level requirements of [3 2 2 1 Common Rare Epic Legendary]:
Astral Entity is a Legendary Death Summoner that I consider as a specialist. It gives the Dodge ability to all ally monsters, revives the first ally monster that dies, and removes 2 Armor from the enemy team. Two of these abilities are mostly physical damage related. Which is why I find it difficult to use Astral Entity when magic is available. When magic is not available, like in the Lost Magic ruleset, Astral Entity is really good. There is a lot of RNG involved on how effective Dodge evades attacks. I personally am very unlucky with my dodges. With the resurrect, there are a few combos possible with Martyr and Nightmare, especially in higher levels. If you want to use it even when Magic is available, Void Armor is a good combo with the resurrect.
Coeurl Lurker is a Legendary Neutral card that costs 11 mana with 4 Melee Attack, 4 Speed, and 10 HP. I think it is a very strong card that is very versatile since it is a neutral card. Early in its release, its combo with Skargore and other Swiftness monsters was very popular because of how difficult it is to hit it with very high speed and dodge. Some strategies include Sthispa, or tank support teams in Water and Life. Basically, there are a lot of strong teams available for it even at Bronze. I still try to rent it, but it is almost always above my filters.
Spirit Miner is a Legendary Neutral card that costs 6 mana with 2 Magic Damage, 3 Speed, and 6 HP. Similar to Coeurl Lurker, Spirit Miner is also very versatile because it is a neutral card. It isn't really a tank like the Lurker, but it has good stats. It can be a Snipe or Opportunity bait, and it has good enough speed to work with Sthispa. On its own, it can easily fit in Magic teams because of its good stats. I don't usually rent it because I don't have good Magic summoners, nor Sthispa.
Chaos Agent is a Common Neutral card that costs 1 mana, with 2 Speed, and 2 HP. It gets the Dodge ability at level 2. From level 2 to 3, it gets 1 additional HP. Chaos Agent is really cheap to rent even at level 3. Honestly, it is almost a must rent. Because it is a neutral card, it can be played in all teams. With its 1 mana cost, it is a good filler in any team. It can be a Sneak, Snipe, or Opportunity bait, and can even serve as a last minute tank because of its Dodge. With the addition of Weapons Training, it can even deal damage. There is almost no downside to using Chaos Agent. If I have to give one, its that it is an easy Bloodlust stack for the opponent.
Serpent of Eld is a Rare Water card that costs 7 mana, with 3 Melee attack, 4 Speed, 2 Armor, and 6 HP. It gets the Dodge ability at level 1. It only gets 1 additional HP from level 1 to 2, but is still very cheap to rent on both levels, so might as well rent the level 2. I think this card is very strong especially for battles with Melee focused rulesets. It has high natural speed, and together with Dodge, it is very difficult to hit. I've seen some battles where it soloed a Melee Fire team. It is very vulnerable to Magic attacks, so in higher bronze it isn't as powerful.
Time Meddler is a Common Life card that costs 8 mana, with 2 Magic attack, 3 Speed, 4 Armor, and 7 HP. It gets the Dodge ability at level 1. It gets +1 HP and Speed from level 1 to 3, and is still very cheap to rent. I usually prefer Djinn Renova over Time Meddler for the Strengthen, but when I have a high mana battle, or when Magic has good rulesets, I use him as well. I also like to use him as a Snipe or Sneak tank because of the Dodge.
As seen from above, there are a lot of viable options for Bronze level cards with Dodge. Death has a summoner that grants it to all allies. Life has one. Water actually has two, but the other one is Phantom of the Abyss which is a really strong card, but is also very costly to rent, so I don't rent it. There are also 3 neutral cards with dodge.
Having 3 neutral monsters with dodge available is really good. There are a lot of strategies and combos possible. While Dodge is usually vulnerable to magic attacks, Sthispa is an option to help against that. There are also Backfire combos with Dodge, to take advantage of the increased evasion.
That is it for my Dodge Rental post. I plan on making one for every ability, and the next one will be on Double Strike. Don't hesitate to let me know what you think, and if have suggestions for improvement.
