Traditional sports [video]: Some traditional Philipino games
One or two decades ago, kids and adults used to enjoy and take part in various kinds of local traditional games/sports to pass their leisure time. However, those traditional outdoor games are replaced by mobile or computer games. In the process, we have lost the benefits of such sports on our body and mind. In this post, containing a video, we will entertain ourselves with some of the traditional Philipino games [Watch the YouTube Video]. I think these sports weren’t limited to the Philippine only. These were played in other parts of the world as well.
Luksong baka or jump over the cow: No cow is necessary here. A person kneels on his/her knees and the front body part is supported with both hands (resemblance of a cow). Others will jump over the person without touching any of their body parts.
Partintero or a game of tag: There are 6 squares on the ground and lines are guarded by one team player. Another team players objective is to start from one squire and cross the lines and come back to the starting squire.
Tumbang preso or knock down the prisoner: One person will guard a tin can within a circle. Others will throw their slippers from a certain distance to hit the can. And they need to retrieve their slipper without being tagged by the guard (prisoner).
Luksong-Tinik or jumping over the thorns: Similar to the Luksong baka but here two players will create a base of the thorn with their limbs (both feet and hands). Others have to jump over the created barrier.
All of these games are (were) played in Bangladesh. So, these aren’t only that of the Philippine. It is played in many parts of the world.
