Oman is one of the Gulf countries situated on the border with the UAE (United Arab Emirates) and KSA (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia). It has many traditional sports/games such as dhow sailing racing, horse and camel racing, falconry, bull butting etc source. However, in the modern era, Oman has accepted some international sports. According to fifa.com, the most recent world football ranking for Oman is 81. The average position since the Fifa football ranking criterion is 89. The highest position ever achieved was the 50th position in the year 2004. Oman football is maintained by the OFA (Oman Football Association). It was founded in 1978. Oman national football team first played an international football match with Libya. But they lost by 14-1 goal, which is also the biggest defeat till now. Their biggest win was against Bhutan (14-0).
