The night was a damp symphony of drizzle and discomfort. Outside, everything lay miserably wet and mushy, what little snow had graced us yesterday had dissolved into slick, treacherous slush. I kept my route brief, just a quick stroll along the Landwehr Canal, where even the trees seemed to shiver under the weight of the weather. Most of my day, though, unfolded in the chaos of the city, crisscrossing its streets to pick up my mom from the train. She came to celebrate the 7th birthday of her grandson, my nephew, and my brother’s son. After the candles were blown out and the laughter faded, it was back to the station to send her safely home. And just like that, she vanished into the distance, leaving the big city behind once more, a fleeting visitor in a sea of noise and neon. Talkin’ about noise and neon, did you know someone completely different left us for good on this day in 2016, Ziggy Stardust, David Bowie, R.I.P. Starman!
