Who Will Stop City?

Newcastle United's search for a win to get them out of the top 4 continues as they were unable to stop the table topper; Manchester City when they hosted them at Saint James' Park. Eddie Howe only managed 5 points since he took over the reins at Newcastle United as his side are still rooted to the bottom of the table.

Ruben Dias, Cancelo, Mahrez and Raheem Sterling heaped more misery on Newcastle United despite producing a spirited performance but they were unable to get the needed goal to halt this effective Manchester City side even though they had a penalty shout which the referee waved off.

Newcastle United had themselves to blame in the 5th minute after Cancelo's lofted pass into the box was not dealt with, leaving Ruben Dias with ample time to head the ball into the back of the net. There was no urgency from the defence line nor did the goalkeeper react quickly.

Newcastle knew they had to respond after gifting that goal away and Joelinton almost got Newcastle level in the 12th minute after Mahrez's poor headed clearance fell to him just outside the box and his low drive shot missed just by a fraction.

Cancelo, despite grabbing the assist for the first goal, went one better in the 27th minute with a great piece of individual brilliance after he went all the way to unleash a thumping strike into the back of the net with the defence line unable to react quickly to stop him. He ran with the ball, twisted and turned before finding his angle as he unleashed his strike to give Manchester City a healthy 2-0 lead.

Newcastle United had a penalty shout in the 27th minute after Ederson clattered into Fraser off the ball and the referee waved play on much to the annoyance of Newcastle fans. The referee felt Cancelo was already in control of the ball with Fraser nowhere near it.

Newcastle United were lacking that extra touch that would get the ball off the line and it was evident again in the 40th minute after Joelinton found Wilson inside the box and Wilson was unable to get the ball off his feet. He couldn't find the space and he tried to pick out Joelinton but Joelinton was snuffed out and the threat was neutralized.

Manchester City took their foot off the gas after gaining their healthy 2 goals advantage as Newcastle United threatened City on a few occasions but Gabriel Jesus almost added a third just before the halftime whistle went but he was unlucky to miss as he missed picking out the bottom right corner of the net by just a fraction after being found in the box with a lovely pass.

Manchester City started the second half, trying to get right into the frame of things again and Gabriel Jesus almost had his 1st goal in 9 games without it after Cancelo's cross was met at the end of the other post by Bernado Silva. His header across the face of the goal came to Gabriel Jesus who powered another brilliant header but this time around, the goalkeeper got a strong hand on it to force a corner kick instead.

City got their 3rd goal of the game after a brilliant delivery into the box by Zinchenko found Mahrez inside the box and his one-time strike found the back of the net with ease to register his 11th goal of the season across all competitions for City and his 50th goal for Manchester City as well.

City got their 4th goal of the game after brilliant work from Gabriel Jesus from the left-hand side of the pitch. He managed to beat his marker to perfectly set up Sterling who was lurking inside the box and Sterling had the easiest of finish as he tapped the ball into the back of the net.

The game ended 4-0 and Manchester City keeps marching on...

They really do seem to be on a roll here. They also seem to be the best team at the top suited for boxing day games. I think they could go into 2022 having their fate in their hands.

That's so true...it's City's title to lose now... They have been sensational.

Your football highlight is explicit, more like you watched it from the real pitch and for those who missed it, this post really suffices, thanks so much for cheering for me as dreemport staff to win this week. It means so much to me. God bless you
