Liverpool, Keeping The Pace.

Liverpool are doing everything to keep the pace and the pressure on Manchester City because at this stage of the season they wouldn't want to fall further behind to easily hand Manchester City the title. They are indeed giving City a run for their money and it would go down to the wire if they continue their impressive form.

With Sadio Mane and Salah soon to join the team, you can expect Liverpool to keep going stronger too as they played well even in the absence of the duo. There would be a renewed effort from Mane after having won the African Cup of Nations for the first time for his country; Senegal and Salah would have to banish that horror of the final's defeat and get back into the form he has been known with, for Liverpool, especially at this crucial time when most games are a decider on how the season would pan out.

Leicester City, despite losing embarrassingly at the hands of giant-slaying Nottingham Forest, they still succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at Anfield, thanks to two wonderfully executed goals from Diogo Jota as it was enough to hand Liverpool the 3 points and cut City's lead to 9 points with an outstanding game still to come.

Leicester City went close to scoring so early on but thanks to Alisson blocking off Maddison's attempt at the near post. Alisson has been in impressive form lately. He is not without his mistakes but we can agree that he is far better and with more quality than Karius.

Liverpool also came close too and it was with the impressive feet of Alexander Arnold after he controlled the ball inside the box, sorted out his feet and unleashed his strike which forced a corner kick at the hands of Schmeichel. The resulting corner kick was delivered into the box and who else than Van Dijk as he met the delivery with a bullet header but Schmeichel was there to block it off but he couldn't do anything to the rebound and the impressive Diogo Jota was on hand to slot the ball into the back of the net in the 34th minute. What a start it was for Liverpool to calm the nerves and gain control of the game.

Robertson's delivery into the box was punched clear by Schmeichel before it reached the intended target; Curtis Jones but the rebound fell nicely for Thiago who attempted an acrobatic volley instead with his effort not being directed towards the goal. The truth is, Thiago hasn't hit the stride with Liverpool despite the hype that surrounded how good he was with passes and visions and all. Injuries played a huge part, no doubt, but he has been a shadow of himself and his return on goals too has been disappointing.

Liverpool kept knocking and was hoping on the second goal which didn't come but would have, had Firmino's header not been blocked off by Schmeichel who was doing everything to keep his side in the game. Salah came into the fray of things too and he tried to score with his trademark after he dazzled with his feet and tried to beat Schmeichel at his near post. The goalkeeper was alert and blocked off his effort.

Salah tried to banish the horror of losing the final by going for the goal himself on numerous occasions but it wasn't to be. He raced through on goal and he tried to chip the ball over Schmeichel in a one-on-one situation but the goalkeeper was alert to stop his effort. The other time, he tried to pick out the top left corner of the post but he was stopped by the crossbar. Diaz tried to make up for his teammates misses with a thumping strike of his own just shortly after but Schmeichel was equal to it.

Diaz came close again after Salah found him inside the box but his effort couldn't sneak across the line as it was quickly dealt with but Leicester City couldn't deal with the effort from Jota in the 87th minute which all but confined Leicester City to a defeat. Joel Matip cleverly picked out Jota inside the box and his shot found the back of the net despite the valiant effort by Schmeichel to keep it out. The game ended 2-0 and Liverpool raced on.
