Breaking News: FINALLY, THE RICHEST HAVE SPOKEN!
It's no longer news that Newcastle United now have by far the richest ownership in world football. What is news now, breaking news for that matter, is they have finally bought their first player. It was as if the money couldn't wait to be spent because, the January transfer window is the very first transfer window they have witnessed and bingo, they have begun to seize it. What's the news?
TEASER
It's Kieran Trippier, 31, the full-back of England descent and a regular in the English national team. He became hugely popular in England playing first team football for Tottenham from 2015 to 2019. It was a lovely era in Tottenham under the distinguished Pochettino, where they even began to qualify for the Champions League and finished runners-up in 2019.
His performances, being a right back and being a set-piece specialist too, was so electric that Spanish force, Atletico Madrid were attracted, swooped in for him and got him.
A lot in England were quite wary if Trippier could replicate his terrific performances in Spain especially because, of a certain history that English players don't do well outside England and then his age(29 years when Atletico got him,an age some think is a period a player experiences diminishing returns) . Make no mistake about it,the aforementioned piece of history was no hoax, only that in Trippier's time the English league had begun benefitting from an influx of non-English coaches, who were world class, even till now. So it wasn't difficult for Trippier to disobey that history and adapt in Spain. He "over adapted" even and was a regular in the Atletico team, helping them win the hugely important La Liga title, last season and was honoured by being named in the La Liga team of same season.
NOW THE NEWS
So he's coming back home: Newcastle have agreed an about £12million deal plus add-ons to sign him from Atletico Madrid. The England international is set to travel to Tyneside to get his medicals done with— this according to Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie.
HOPE RISING
This I must consider a big move to salvage a club that, as far as I am concerned, signed the wrong manager after this multi-billion takeover: https://peakd.com/hive-101690/@ogeewitty/what-castle-new-or-old-eyesbut-no-sight-earsbut-no-hearing
cheerfully...
I remember he had a disasterous champions league campaign with SPurs and we sold him for peanuts. And he put the blame on having a new child. Noone really sees the private lifes of these guys. When I was up all night with my little one, I was in a haze at work as well. Imagine that with ROnaldo running at you. I would love him back now as he would fit better into a Conte system.
Hi @blanchy,
Great revelation there,I didn't know this inside story. Indeed people often forget these guys are only humans, with private lives too.
Anyways Atletico saw the disastrous Champions league campaign and still bought him.🙂 Maybe that is food for thought. Atletico was saying a moment is not enough to define a player at times,we have seen his quality over time,so why will a momentary loss of form becloud our judgement? Maybe they knew of this inside story too.
I recall another right back in Arnold of Liverpool, when he was going through his own poor patch last season. The press and fans wanted to "kill" him, but Klopp managed the situation well and today he's back to his best.
Trippier excelled in Spain to the surprise of nay sayers and yeah Conte will like such a player, but I think he's gone already.
lets see how how well and how long he can stay in the "new' Newcastle. Because being a rich club at the moment, they would likely to pursue instant title, and a player with his age might be get rid out soon.
Well, there is no "flat rate" for all, as far as age is concerned. How old is Cavani, how old is Milner, how old is Adhley Young? It all depends on how well a player takes care of his body.
If they want a title instantly, that means one to two years time. That's not so many years added to Trippier's age,if he takes good care of himself(which I suspect he does).
By the way they, won't get any instant title with the coach they have now. Did you read my post?
Thanks @alt-runner for making out time to come here.
Newcastle already spending, this is just the opening scene.
