Lil Miss Big debute on the field
Today was the big day, the day Georgies Little Legends commenced its 2021 season and I'm super pumped that lil miss got picked for the little league. We've been coming here everyday to watch the soccer and it's something she's really wanted to be involved with ever since we moved to our new community.
It's been hard, she'd often beg for me to let her on the field to play, to learn and to make friends but the decision wasn't upto me. It was the clubs decision to pick their kids. I think her dedication to the sport and the fact she wasn't even a player is what drove the club to accepting her application.
She was also really cheeky in that the fact that were here everyday she was able to build her networks and become good friends with the club managers daughter whom also plays. They're in the same group and get along really well. I don't think this is something she consciously did knowing whom she was. She just made friends with someone who was at the club everyday also. She got lucky 🤣
I'm also not suggesting that's why she was selected, lil miss is an epic football fanatic. When I say she makes me come here daily, she really does. She comes to watch the big kids play, she comes to watch the tournament and she comes to watch Western United which is an A League club train on Georgies grounds.
I have to admit that lil miss knows how to pick her club. Georgies isn't just a local club it is one of the best in Victoria and I'd probably make a statement of in the nation. It's main ground is a $5million dollar field. It is FIFA grade and the best field going around. So much so that there are so many clubs lining up to play here. There are even international teams that when they come to Australia they come to this field. Due to COVID no ones travelled but once it opens up we will be right across the road from international clubs training.
Australia is a relatively small country so where in other nations fields would be packed and you'd never be able to see your nation's best players. I'll be able to walk across the road and sit down in the stands with full line of sight. The benefits of an empty country, the negatives is that there isn't much revenue so not many come out here often. But when they do it's a big news event.
We were up bright an early to head to training, it's usually a pretty rough fight getting lil miss out of bed but she was up quicker than a bolt of lightning. The alarm went off, she said Is today soccer I mumbled yeah as I struggled to get out of bed from a rough work week. With excitement she ran around the house arms raised shirt over her head screaming Yeaaaaaaah!
Lil Bloke came with us to he was super excited to watch his big sister start training. Bit cold as we're heading into winter but the cold didn't seem to bother her too much. I got a lovely coffee and sat to watch training.
Lil Miss was a lil sad that she didn't get her club uniform in time but due to COVID restrictions inventory and distribution has been delayed. But she'll get it soon and she can't wait to wear the club colours and rep her club.
She was really focused on the ball throughout training, we'd spent a few weeks on one of the fields to the outter side of the club away from everyone practising. I guess those practice sessions paid off with her confidence with the ball.
Because we're here quite alot she was comfortable with the field and the grounds so didn't feel scared, a lil hesitant at the start but once she saw her friend she was straight into it.
I'm pretty excited as it will help her develop skills, many of which she missed out on during lock down. Socialisation which she's a natural at but more importantly the importance of team work, listening and following instructions. Working with others and all the other skills picked up when one joins a team.
It was pretty cheap $450 for May to September the club has a bistro and events that subsidies the clubs costs with the money being injected back into the game.
George Cross Football Club is a Division 1 State team and was established by Maltese migrants after the second world war in 1948. It's colours are red and white which coincide with the colours of the Maltese flag.
The club is also currently undergoing an upgrade to become a National league, with all that is remaining to be completed is a grand stand surrounding their main ground. Once completed it will be a national club they also have a vision for becoming an international club so look out world and move over soccer roos there might be a new player on the field in future years to come.
Lil Miss debute on the field may in fact come at a great time with all the clubs advancements she might find herself an international player in years to come in the women's league. That would he really awesome to see.
After all, her unequivocal Dedication to the sport even before becoming a player. Being here every day, learning to play through watching, making friends and using the clubs facilities has paid off by getting her a spot on the Little league team.
In years to come she will undoubtedly become a great player, she's also tall and fast. Her hight and speed will come in handy when using the ball and head buts are going to be so much easier for her with her added hight.
Is this the birth of a future soccer world championship player? I hope so!
