My Actifit Report Card: January 13 2025
Yesterday we went to Marlborough by mistake. Tina (having had a nerve wracking day before) wanted to go for a walk somewhere, so we had decided to go find a town, maybe Newbury (which isn’t far), Hungerford (a little further) but not Marlborough. Oh no no.
I’m joking because we love Marlborough but what happened is; we reached Hungerford and the high street was closed, there was a diversion in place and so we followed it.
We ended up travelling further and further away from where we had intended to go. A good half an hour had passed and we were thinking that the people of Hungerford were in a bad mood and wanted no visitors!
We ended up driving through Savernake Forest which is a stunning place but Tina was getting frustrated and I was getting frustrated by her being frustrated. I feared a quarrel was about to happen and said, “Let’s make Marlborough our destination instead”, expecting a verbal assassination in return; silence followed by, “Yes that’s a good idea”.
Phew! Being husband to a menopausal woman does have its challenges at times and diplomacy, which I’m crap at because “I always say the wrong things”, is tricky to say in the least.
Turned out to be a great visit. We bought stuff. I bought a book, Tina found a very good dress shop and purchased some new clothes.
We decided to go back in a few weeks time on a Saturday!
The photos are of a couple of interesting buildings we found whilst walking around the town. The first would appear to be the old gaol, now part of a house. Imagine that! You’re in trouble with mum and dad, they send you to prison for the afternoon; or perhaps you’re just a married person and this is the “doghouse”.
The second is a very low ceiling, part of an entrance to a very old rickety alleyway which had distinct Dickensian vibes about it.
I found a record shop called Sound Knowledge which was an interesting place to spend time at but I came out empty handed. I didn’t know what I was looking for and perhaps should start a list.
Have a lovely Monday!

I don't really know that part of the UK, but we have lots of quaint old towns. I do get the bit of living with a woman of 'a certain age'. We do still mostly get on though.
