Enjoying the small wins.

Or almost wins. It's not always about taking home gold medals. Sometimes it's enough to give it everything trying.

I'm not talking about medals for participation but real competitiveness.

IRELAND’S WOMEN’S RELAY team finished fourth in tonight’s 4x400m women’s relay final.
The team of Sophie Becker, Phil Healy, Rhasidat Adeleke and Sharlene Mawdsley finished the race with a time of 3:19.90, a new national record.
Ref. The journal.

They might not have won a medal but the team was damn close. Close enough to scare traditional powerhouses like UK and beat top quality teams like Jamaica.

We were in second place before the third leg and looked like there was a chance of a medal. With that said i think that the team gave it everything and can't complain about the finish even if it was hearthbreaking. They set a new Irish record and each of them performed at 100%. A great performance.

Overall Ireland has had a very good Olympics with gold medals in swimming, boxing and rowing. Very impressive for a country with only 6M people.

It's the first Olympics that i have really gotten into watching, mainly from having so many Irish athletes competing across the board and non stop coverage on our national broadcaster.

Most of the time i would be working or asleep for the bulk of the games so it was fun to watch more this time around.

I think that tomorrow is the last day so it will be another four years before we do this again but it has been a great watch and kindled an interest in athletics for my son who is running around the garden.

Yep, I watched a bit myself. When I was a kid I watched a lot during Olympic games, but I guess now we have other things to do do too.
