Do It Yourself (DIY) Homemade Weights If You Can't Get to the Gym

avatar

An active lifestyle and a muscle-building lifestyle are what a lot of people strive for. The failure rate is high, though, because there are a lot of obstacles on your road to maintaining this lifestyle. It's a lifetime marathon, not a sprint.

Based on these you need as many tricks as possible to help you.

Leaving the house for the gym might be a problem sometimes because it's not always about laziness. Sometimes it might be cost or some other reason.

Having a gym at home is also another long story. Even getting weights and keeping them at home could be a long story too.

So this is a method I have devised to keep myself able to get a workout in when I'm unable to go to the gym for any of the millions of reasons that exist.

This is a perfect strategy, as you'll come to find, this takes care of a whole lot and works perfectly. And it costs absolutely nothing!

So, this is how it goes:

Get a plastic bottle like this, fill it up with water, and then fill it up with sand. This makes it heavier than if you'd filled it up with only water or only sand.

If one of them is enough for you, you can go ahead and work out with one. But ideally one would never be enough. You'd either become too strong for it or you might need two for your two hands.

Go ahead and make a lot of them. I currently have up to 6, and I supplement them with just water bottles sometimes.

You can hold two in two hands if that's enough for you, or here is the advanced part of this trick; you can keep a cloth on the floor like this:

Load the weights onto the cloths, grab the ends of the cloth, and hold the weight up:

As you can see, with this you can make what you're holding as humongously heavy as you want.

You can grip it anyhow you want like a dumbbell. You can have a supinated or pronated grip with this:

You can do any exercise that can be done with a dumbbell with this, the exercises I enjoy doing with these are:

•Calf raises
•Bentover rows
•Bicep Curls
•Lateral, front, and rear raises.
•Tricep kickbacks

It's a lot of fun when I can't go to the gym but want to get something in.

Join in and have fun too, if this is for you! 😀

Excellent tips for working out at home bro! There is a third type of person, those who do have weights and dumbbells at home and they are full of dust and cobwebs in a corner, that's me 😅 but I hope to improve this soon 🙏 Thanks for sharing this in our DIYHub community, there is always someone who can use what we post here.

Hey, I was really impressed with your picture at the end of the post, seeing your profile avatar I thought you were a young skinny boy hahaha.... Happy day Nevies! ✌️

Ah, brilliant mate.
I think I will try this out, albeit I don't think you can do all routines with this. How do you do a curl with it though? I don't think there's a handle grip. Enlighten me bro

Yo @stevenson7, I didn't realize you were still on Hive. There was a year we used to cross paths, I don't know if you recall.

I already gave a list of some of the best workouts with this stuff on the post, and I should the different ways to hold it. You can really do anything you want when you get hold of the cloth the weight is wrapped in.

With the cloth you can only ideally do one arm curls, not two hands at a time.

This is a really smart way to turn basic things into a useful tool. It also shows your commitment to your health and body. Good work.

Certainly. You can do a lot of different type of squats with it. Like split squats, Russian squats, etc.
