Paces Charity 10k
Today, I wanted to post something a little different to my usual posts. While photography is my hobby and I have a separate full time job, I have been asked before to photograph a couple of weddings, some races (running) and the odd charity event.
I was recently asked by a friend who works for a Charity organisation (Paces), supporting families coping with Cerebral Palsy and Motor Disorders, if I would come and photograph their first, inaugral 10K race? This was on a bright Sunday morning at MANVERS WATERFRONT BOAT CLUB LIMITED, Wath on Dearne not too far from Sheffield.
I was actually excited for this as this was one of my earlier outings with my Sony A7iii and was excited that it had eye and face recognition to lock onto, hopefully ensuring more images would come out in focus as people shot past.
So I put my camera on Rapid Fire mode and shot over 4000 images, of which I have edited 330. It was a great event organised by some fabulous people for a fantastic cause and it was a pleasure to give my time to record the event.
My photos from this event are many, and large! I'm currently at work with no access to Dropbox, and the work laptop is tied down tighter than a rusty tap (flashback to my inlaws house Sunday morning, they had a leak and we couldn't turn the water off in the house as the tap was stuck!). Therefore what I have access too is some montage shots I created for my LinkedIn profile. Hopefully they should tell the story just as well..
During the first lap we bided our time talking with the local Police who had come to setup a stall and show the people what they did. A good opportunity for a bit of dress up ;)
..and then it was back to the action as the runners started coming through
Obviously this is a very small selection of the images. Before we knew it the lead runners then began to come through to the finish line..
And finally some random shots of the fundraising day..
What really made it for me was after the images had been put on the group facebook page, a lot of people came to me asking for ore shots of them and if they could get copies. It made me feel like I couldn't have done too bad a job :)
I do hope that you liked this post? It's a little different from the street shots and model shots, and worlds removed from urban exploring, but I just wanted to show some versatility
As a photographer I try to mix what I do in my shots, I've done still life, some macro work, lightpainting and I enjoy a good model shoot. If you'd like to check out any of my other work I'm on Facebook, or you can find me on Instagram under neilru75
Thanks very much for looking
Kind Regards, Neil
This was a really cool post. Sorry you couldn't sort the photos as you would like but it's interesting to see them telling the stories here like this. Glad you got to do this gig and it sounds like it was for a most excellent cause. Cheers!
