Postcards from Thailand #1: My Acti-Weed Report Card: 10 Feb 2023
Commuting the 750km each way from Samui to Bangkok overnight Friday and back again on a Sunday night is getting tough.
Last night, we came back by bus. A total of 14 arse numbing hours by boat and bus with just one stop for food at a service area which is free and in addition to the bottle of juice and water and a packet of biscuits they give you on the bus.
At the service area tonight though, you had the option of buying a weed infused brownie!
Our new, liberal weed policies mean that stands like this are becoming more and more common in shops everywhere.
No, I didn't try them, at 300baht ($10 USD, £8 GBP) I thought they were a bit pricey and although no doubt helping me to sleep, would probably have made a full days teaching today be a bit of a laid back struggle!
There was a sign explaining how much to eat depending on your level of experience!
Even in 7/11 there are all sorts of infused edible goodies with signs to warn that they cannot be sold to under 20's and shouldn't be eaten by pregnant women (are there any other kind?!) but it's great to see such a relaxed attitude.
The funny thing is, you can only buy alcohol here between 12 and 3 and 5 and 12 but weed can be bought 24/7. That's very much like UK pub opening hours back in the 80s.
That's all for today. Two solid days of cases in Bangkok then back to Samui and our new clinic and the new cases we've already picked up down there.
No rest for the wicked they say!
I wish everyone a wonderful, happy and healthy weekend!

Oefff that’s a journey every time and it sounds painful each time. I can imagine it is getting tough.
Brownie infused with weed hahaha 🤣
Perfect for a bus trip like that, nope… when you have to teach.
They do say that indeed, no rest for the wicked.
Guess what, I shared yesterday finally 😇 where we ended up moving to. Winter wonderland… ☃️☃️☃️
Have an awesome weekend. Do recharge and relax a bit.
Take care @nathen007
I did see where you ended up. Beautiful location, I love it around there and have to confess to being a little jealous. I can't wait to see your photos as you enjoy the stunning scenery and beaches.
Time for a couple of hours sleep before the first little 'angel' turns up at 9am!
Goodnight, hopefully I'll be able to feel my arse again when I wake up....or IF I wake up ;-)
Thanks a lot @nathen007 👋🏻😊 it’s stunning up here.
So much to explore… can’t wait to share them with you 😎😉
Hope you slept well a bit before the first “angel” showed up.
And that you have some feeling back hahaha 🤣 I shouldn’t laugh… not funny I know 😇
Enjoy the day!

That's an interesting journey 😮 why is weed so openly sold therreeeee
Now I'm curious how it tastes like 🥲
They completely decriminalised it last year. I'm not sure there's much of a taste but it leaves you feeling a bit drunk and chilled out. Mysis
Hmmmm this makes me even more curious to try it out 👀 because I hate that buzz you get with alcohol. I remember being told that the high from weed hits different
That's really strange, is it because they don't want people getting drunk at some crucial hours of the day?
Hey mate, hope things are looking up for you :-)
Not sure why the hours are like that here, perhaps because Thais are really big drinkers. In the UK it was like that because they didnt want people staying in the pub all afternoon instead of going back to work after their lunch hour lol
Yeah, it's been good on my end, how about you?
That's good, in Nigeria here, people can drink even from 5am and there's no system checking them. Hahaha never thought Thais would be heavy drinkers.
That's a very long return journey every weekend!! I imagine the roads and coach aren't as comfy as cruising on the National Express down the M1
The roads aren't bad and the bus is OK but the seats are so hard and it's so long. There is a VIP bus with more legroom and only three seats across but it's always booked up.
We alternate between car, bike or bus. We used to get cheap tickets on the plane but not any more, even on Air Asia.
Its the turn of the car laden with books on Sunday as I just got it back from the body shop after my recent minor mishap ;-)

I am gonna have to remember that especially with alcohol, I can be bit random. Those edible looks pretty nice but for some reason with my passports and everything, I wouldn't dare touching them 😂. You also mentioned about VIP bus, I saw them on click2go or something and would love to try it. Air Asia is pretty expensive and for example, the other day I booked one from DMK to KL, the rates I get from Air Asia is about $100 without baggage and decided to use Batik Air just cause it has extra baggage and still around $100.
The VIP buses are comfy both in Thailand and Malaysia, similar to business class on a flight.
All damn flights anywhere are expensive now! Out of DMK on that route there is also Lion Air and Nok Air.
Thailand is great because there are always so many options for every route using every kind of transport.
The train ride from Bangkok to KL is wonderful with only one change but much of it is at night on comfy sleeper trains which for me is the best way to travel!
As for alcohol, there are always little local shops which will sell at any times of the night or day and generally, the bars don't care about selling times!
If you need any help or advice , please send me a message.
As you like temples, Ayuthaya is a must. That's a 3 hour bus ride from Chatuchak bus terminal. Every hour and is about 90baht or third class train even less. Don't stress about transport here.
When you come I'll send you my phone number so if you ever get stuck, you'll be safe in the knowledge you have help just a phone call away :-)
Whaat? there's train ride from Bangkok to KL? I missed out on cheap and good experience😭. Anyway, I'll be around in about a week and it's going to be quite an adventure, I am staying for a bit over there and if I like it enough, I might go back from KL to DMK again 😁. Actually, the other day I was browsing through the places that you reviewed including Ayutthaya and was wondering if I could also reach you from Discord. I've been learning a bit of Thai but at least now I can say mai kâ and chai kâ 🤣 or mai mai. Thank you for your offer! I'll let you know when I safely landed over there, hope the weather is good too 😄
Take care!
The weather is just getting into the hot months of March April May and I'm on discord as nathen007. You're going to have an amazing time :-)
I'd have come back addicted to Brownies....
