Rediscovering the Joy of Running
Let me set the scene for you: it’s pouring rain, and I’m lounging in my cozy slippers, not planning to walk, run, or blog. The weather was my perfect excuse to embrace laziness. My hubby, @borniet, had already left, and suddenly, I realized I needed to catch up with him. Spoiler alert: it involved running.
Now, let’s be real. The last time I ran was over a year ago. You’d think my running shoes would have gathered some dust, but no, I completely bypassed them for my trusty slippers. Clearly, I’m all about those solid life choices. But hey, once I started running, I was hit with this long-forgotten feeling. You know the one—the runner’s high or maybe just the “Oh my God, what have I done” sensation.
As I wheezed and puffed my way to catching up with him, I realized how out of shape I was. Out of breath and looking like a drowned rat, I decided right then and there: it’s time to get my act together. The gym and I are about to rekindle our love-hate relationship.
The Slipper Sprint
Picture this: me, sprinting down the street in slippers. Not my finest moment, but sometimes life calls for spontaneous decisions, however questionable. The rain was relentless, and every step felt like a battle against the elements—and my laziness. But amidst the chaos, I remembered something important: running feels good. Not the “I’m dying” part, but the exhilaration, the rush, the sense of accomplishment.
The Wake-Up Call
By the time I caught up with my husband, I was gasping for air. It wasn’t normal to be this winded from a short run. That’s when it hit me—I need to prioritize my fitness again. I used to be a gym regular, but life, kids, and a million other excuses got in the way. It’s easy to let things slide, but hard to get back on track. This impromptu run was my wake-up call.
A Commitment to Myself
So, here’s the plan: I’m committing to running regularly and getting back to the gym. Not tomorrow, not next week—today. I’m done with excuses. It’s time to dust off those running shoes (literally) and make fitness a priority again. And next time, I promise I’ll wear proper footwear.
Embracing the Journey
This journey back to fitness won’t be easy, but it’s necessary. I’m ready to embrace the challenges, the sore muscles, and the satisfaction that comes with progress. I’ll share my ups and downs, my victories and setbacks, because let’s face it, life is messy, and that’s what makes it interesting.
So, here’s to running in the rain, chasing after forgotten feelings, and making the decision to prioritize myself. If I can do it, anyone can.
