Ah, perimenopause, that delightful time when your body decides to throw a daily surprise party, and the guest list includes hot flashes, mood swings, and the inexplicable urge to cry over fabric softener commercials. In the midst of this hormonal hurricane, I decided to reclaim a bit of sanity by taking up walking again. It’s not just for the step count, folks—it’s my therapy.

Stormy Weather and Reflections

There’s something poetic about stormy weather and puddles. Sure, they ruin your favorite pair of sneakers, but they also create perfect mirrors for reflection. As I trudged through the muddy paths, dodging worms like a seasoned ninja, I couldn’t help but see my reflection staring back at me from the water. It was a metaphor, right? My body and my life are going through a storm, and these puddles are the messy, imperfect reflections of it. And just like the puddles, my reflection isn’t perfect, but it’s real. It’s me.

The Canal: Ducks and New Beginnings

While my body is embarking on this uninvited adventure called perimenopause, nature is doing its thing. The canal near my walking route is alive with ducks and their adorable ducklings. They’re busy building nests and nurturing new life. It’s a constant reminder that every ending is a new beginning. My hormones might be all over the place, but there’s something fundamentally grounding about watching those ducks. They’re doing what they need to do, just as I am. Plus, if those fluffy little ducklings can brave the world, so can I.

Leg Day: More Than Just Exercise

Let’s talk about leg day. No, not the gym kind where you squat until you cry. I mean the kind where you show off your legs. Yes, even if they’re a bit wobbly and your knees make that weird clicking noise. Walking has become my leg day—both physically and metaphorically. It’s about strength, endurance, and the sheer joy of moving forward. Despite everything, my legs are still carrying me through this journey, one step at a time.

Embracing the Journey

So, here I am, navigating perimenopause with all its quirky challenges. Walking has become my escape, my reflection, and my celebration. The storms and puddles aren’t just obstacles; they’re part of the path. The ducks remind me of the beauty of new beginnings, and every leg day is a triumph of movement and resilience.

If you’re on this rollercoaster of life changes, remember that it’s okay to embrace the mess. Lace up those sneakers, step into those puddles, and let the ducks inspire you. Your body might be starting a new phase, but every step you take is a victory. And remember, if those ducks can do it, so can you.
