El Chelsea no está pasando por un buen momento y es que su recuperación en la tabla de posiciones tienen una evidente dificultad y es causa de las numerosas bajas por lesión las cuales antes de este encuentro eran seis, eso hace que este equipo diezmado debe hacer lo posible por fichar en el actual mercado de invierno y que dichas nuevas incorporaciones puedan ayudar mucho al equipo a la espera de recuperar a varios jugadores; por parte del ManCity, queda decir que la prueba es seguir recuperando la calidad de jugadores vitales para ese equipo como son Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Cancelo y hasta el mismo Gündogan y esto lo señalo porque en los tres juegos disputados post-mundial, esos jugadores no han demostrado constancia y ahora más que nunca deben exigirse porque mientras titubean y pierden puntos, su principal rival en esta temporada hace cada vez mejor su trabajo.

El segundo tiempo era de esperar que Guardiola haría cambios y más viendo que a pesar del orden del Chelsea en defensa, su ataque seguro disminuiría por las bajas de Sterling y Pulisic que se sumaron a esa larga lista de lesionados del equipo azul de Londres y anexo la evidente desconexión entre Havertz y Aubameyang; con estos factores a favor del ManCity, solo quedaba esperar a ver quiénes saldrian y quiénes estarían en el tiempo restante del encuentro; uno de los fallos del City fue el intrascendente trabajo de Cancelo y Walker, por eso entra en el juego Akanji y el joven canterano, Lewis y con ellos, tiempo después, entra Grealish y Mahrez para dar frescura al ataque por las bandas; estos dos últimos cambios fueron los más importantes, ya que tan solo con tres minutos en el campo, en una jugada con transición rápida, Grealish asiste a Mahrez quien anota el único e importante gol del encuentro; una jugada que difícilmente se repitió porque el actual campeón de la Premier League no jugó bien.

A pesar de no ser un excelente juego por parte del Manchester City que contaba con todos sus jugadores titulares, pudo conseguir los tres puntos para recortar la ventaja que tuvo el Arsenal quien empató contra el Newcastle en esta misma jornada; cinco puntos los separan y hay que recordar que todavía falta los dos encuentros (primera y segunda vuelta) entre estos dos clubes. El Chelsea tiene un difícil problema que enfrentar en esta temporada, las lesiones y lo mal que estuvieron a principio de temporada está pasando factura y ahora la nueva directiva deberá trabajar rápido para poder recuperar ese gran terreno que se ha perdido porque hay que señalar que están a catorce puntos del líder. El próximo domingo ambos clubes deben nuevamente enfrentarse por la FA Cup y esta es una gran oportunidad para el Chelsea quien debe de una manera u otra ganar otro título del torneo local para asegurar su participación en algún torneo de UEFA; por parte del ManCity es otra oportunidad para dar otro paso más en ganar nuevamente ese título y eliminar otra vez al Chelsea tal como lo hizo en la Carabao Cup.
