Walking Around on a Hot Day
Last week I was invited for some dinner at a nice restaurant called obendrüber and I thought I would take some photos of my journey and small exploration of the town when I was there.
I was quite happy to be invited for some dinner as I had not visited this one before and was keen to see what it was like. However, as the day neared, we started getting a heat wave and it was brutal warm and staying cool was my top priority!
The weather this year has been on and off good, so it was surprising to get such a hot day suddenly. The restaurant is above a fancy department store called Henschel. They have air conditioning, which was a good thing.
The evening entrance doesn't look that fancy from this angle, but the restaurant is on the roof and has lovely views of the town and market square Marktplatz where there are many restaurants and a popular pub. It is a popular hangout near the university where people meet for food, coffee and to chat with friends.
The department store is quite large and the building is quite fancy from this side. In the top right you can see the roof where the restaurant is.
Inside the department store it was very cool with the air conditioning and had many fancy areas with expensive things to buy.
After the meal, I explored around more and saw this huge ferris wheel. It didnt look in operation right then or particularly safe! I am not a huge fan of these ferris wheels. The largest I have been on was in Italy and it was huge and scary if you don't like heights.
In this market square they also do lots of markets including the christmas market. However, it is too small and the market weaves its way around the town.
In the summer though it is popular for food and drinking beer in the pub that was very full when I walked past it.
They have traditional german beer available and the great thing is they have table service which is always good in my book!
There was also some culture to view with this mueseum in this grand building. At least I think it was a mueseum.
Exploring further around the town I wandered a very nice shopping street with some restaurants and cafes with outdoor areas. Here there are a couple of Italian restaurants where people were enjoying pizza that looked very tasty! After my meal though, I was quite good, but it was a consideration for the future.
Approaching the point of my extraction, I passed the theatre which is a modern type white building with a huge park in front where lots of young people hang out on warm days like today. I was surprised it was not so full but perhaps it was early still.
Finally I passed upon the impressive and large Ludwigskirche Ludwigs Church which has a huge dome and is a great sight to behold. Sadly it was closed on this occassion and I couldn't go in and check out the inside which is apparently equally as impressive.
Thanks for reading.

Great exploration there, nice shots on the way. Though it's a bit challenging to walk in a hot weather. I hope you enjoyed your meal. Happy new week.

Thanks, it was a lovely meal and I was glad that I had the chance to explore the town.
You had a double purpose in your visit.😊 The place is elegant and I'm sure you enjoyed your dinner.😊
Thanks, it was a really great restaurant and I can heartily recommend it. The table service was super friendly and fun.
You're welcome.😊 Thank you for the information. The people in the area who read your post will surely visit too.😊
Very nice photos. I hope you enjoyed the dish! 😋😎
Thanks it was very tasty!
Incredible places you’ve captured! It’s so different from what I see here. That department store looks so fancy! I bet it’s expensive there.
It was a very fancy store and the things were pretty pricey with expensive brands. It was nice to look around though ☺️
That's a nice walk to enjoy some beautiful views including some impressive buildings like that church. Oh yes, the Ferris wheel, it also has caused some serious troubles in my country (causing some fatal incidents too).
Thanks it was a lovely walk with some great views. I am already looking forward to my next visit there. Sorry to hear about the Ferris wheel incidents, I do not trust them myself.
The facade of those first buildings looks very futuristic. Like something UFO inspired. At least that's the way it looks to me! It's been hot here too lately. We basically just try to stay in and keep the air running :P.
Yes, it is some sort of futuristic style mixed with the old. I am doing the same to try and keep cool too! Can't beat air conditioning!
No you can not!
What meal did you have? It looks like a decent place, and seems like a sunny day indeed.
It was a great open kitchen there and they had a limited menu, but the options were really amazing and very fancy. I took the steak 🥩 which was awesome!

Thanks Ben, it was a great meal and I was happy to get the chance to walk around the town.
Walking on a hot day requires a lot of bravery because it is very exhausting to go outside when it's hot.
I used to think wheels were cool and wasn't afraid of them 10 years ago. I'm not sure what has changed, but now I am afraid of heights(
I really struggle with the heat, especially mid 30s is too much, but I had already committed to the dinner to drop out.
I know what you mean about the Ferris Wheels, I thought they were call when I was younger, but now I cant take them!

Interesting looking theater and church, both quite modern looking. Now I had to look it up, the church actually isn't that modern, 1827. I wonder if at the time it was 'scandalous' - LOL. Your 'grand building' reminds me of Mannheim - I miss it sometimes...
Thanks for sharing your lovely walk 😊
Yes it's quite an old one, but there are more fancy ones in the famous, jugendstil nearby which might be for another post.
We do like to visit Luisenpark in Mannheim in the summertime. I didn't really dig around the city at all yet!

It's nice to have summer back isn't it? You had a great time on the town if you will! I do have to agree with you that the ferris wheel didn't look like one I would consider setting foot on. That looks like a nice place, definitely worth the visit and they had great food as a bonus!
