Andrea Pirlo nació en Brescia, en una comuna llamada Flero, el 19 de mayo de 1979, fue un futbolista y actualmente entrenador italiano, un jugador que destacó siempre por su elegancia en el control del balon y por una pegada exquisita. Desde muy joven estuvo jugando en distintos equipos amateurs hasta que llegó a las filas del Brescia Calcio, donde destacó jugando como mediapunta, mas o menos cuando tenia 10 años de edad. Cuando estaba cerca de cumplir 16 años Mircea Lucescu lo subió al primer equipo y el 21 de mayo de 1995 se produjo su debut como profesional, en un partido de Serie A contra Reggina, convirtiendose en el jugador mas joven en debutar en Serie A para el Brescia. El jugador fue alternando prescencias en Seria A y en el equipo juvenil, con el que ganó el Torneo de Viareggio en 1996 ganandole la final al Parma en el que jugaba por aquel entonces Gianluiggi Buffon. El futbolista siguió su progreso hacia la elite y ascendió a la Serie A luego de haberse ido a la Serie B, siendo uno de los principales responsables de que el equipo lograra mantener la categoría en 1997, al año siguiente sucedio lo inevitable y el Inter tocó a su puerta para intentar ficharlo. En total jugó 49 partidos con el Brescia y anotó 5 goles.

La llegada de Pirlo al Inter estuvo llena de muchas y buenas expectativas pero Andrea llegó en una etapa bastante gris para los neroazurri. En su primera temporada el club tuvo hasta 4 entrenadores, los dos primeros, Luigi Simoni y Mircea Lucescu que lo entrenó tambien en Brescia, le dieron rodaje y se mantuvo rotando entre los partidos pero con Luciano Castellini y Roy Hodgson empezó a perder protagonismo y a jugar cada vez menos. La temporada siguiente Marcello Lippi lo envió a prestamo al Reggina donde tuvo un desempeño muy bueno y eso sumado a su actuacion en la Eurocopa sub-21 provocó que fuera llamado de vuelta al Inter, que habia cambiado de tecnico nuevamente. Tardelli, quien lo habia dirigido en la Eurocopa fue el nuevo encargado del club y aunque parecia que Pirlo iba a ser un fijo en su once titular, en sus primeros seis meses como tecnico solo lo hizo jugar 4 partidos. Buscando minutos y rodaje fue cedido a su club anterior, el Brescia, donde compartió equipo nuevamente con Roberto Baggio y donde empezó a crearse el Pirlo que conocimos todos, ya que hasta ese momento Andrea era un futbolista enfocado al ataque y no a la creación de juego, con Baggio en el equipo la posicion de mediapunta era ocupada por este normalmente asi que Carlo Mazzone, el tecnico del Brescia decidio retrasar su posicion y colocarlo entre la defensa y el mediapunta, para que se encargara de crear juego para el equipo y asi pudiera ser titular y tener minutos, el plan funciono perfectamente pero Pirlo sufrió una lesion que lo terminó mermando y permitiendole jugar apenas 10 partidos esa temporada, aun asi las sensaciones eran buenas y aunque jugó poco, lo hizo muy bien, esas actuaciones le valieron su fichaje por el Milan. Andrea terminó jugando 40 partidos para el Inter y no marcó ningun gol, en su cesion al Reggina jugo 30 partidos y marcó 7 goles, mientras que en su ultima cesion con el Brescia jugó 10 partidos y no marcó goles.

Hasta este punto Pirlo había sido un buen jugador pero no había logrado dar el salto hacia la elite y empezaban a surgir mas dudas que realidades alrededor de su nombre, fue entonces cuando Carlo Ancelotti lo fichó para su Milan en 2001, Carletto decidió usar a Pirlo de volante creativo como lo había hecho Mazzone poco antes en el Brescia, en lugar de su habitual posición de mediapunta, en el famoso ''árbol de navidad'' de Ancelotti con una formación 4-3-2-1 en la que de inicio compartió el centro del campo con Gatusso y Ambrosini, estos dos enfocados mas en la defensa y Pirlo en la distribución y creación de juego. Rápidamente el italiano empezó a volverse un fijo en el once titular del Milan que comenzaba a gestar una de sus etapas mas exitosas, en su primera temporada no ganaron titulos pero dejaron muy buenas sensaciones, en la siguiente temporada salieron campeones de la copa Italia y la UEFA Champions League venciendo a la Juventus en la final, Pirlo ganó este titulo en su año debut en la competicion. En la Supercopa de Europa salieron campeones al vencer al FC Porto y en la 2003-2004 fueron campeones de la Serie A. En el año 2005 Pirlo estuvo en la cancha durante el recordado ''Milagro de Estambul'' en el que Liverpool remontó un marcador de 3-0 para terminar saliendo campeon de esa Champions en la final frente al Milan de Pirlo, una etapa muy fuerte para Andrea Pirlo que en su biografia dijo lo siguiente:

Pensé seriamente en dejar el fútbol porque ya no le encontraba sentido. Ya no me sentía futbolista, ni siquiera me sentía hombre. No podía ni mirarme al espejo. Después de esa final creamos una enfermedad con muchos síntomas, el 'síndrome de Estambul'. Sigo sin entender qué es lo que sucedió esa noche.

Para colmo, al año siguiente explotó el escandalo del Calciopoli del cual el Milan salió afectado tambien, perdiendo 30 puntos en la liga lo que les hizo quedar terceros ese año, eliminados de la Copa Italia por el Palermo y de la Champions por el increible Barcelona de Ronaldinho, todo parecia apuntar a que el Milan entraria en una etapa de depresion futbolistica, sin embargo el nivel individual de Pirlo no paraba de crecer y en el año del mundial (del cual salio campeon) terminó noveno en las votaciones para el Balon de Oro y fue parte del XI Mundial FIFA/FIFPro.

La temporada siguiente el Milan hizo una gran campaña en Europa nuevamente, de la mano de Kaká los italianos llegaron a una nueva final contra el Liverpool y los fantasmas de Estambul empezaban a aparecer, pero como toda estrella que sabe aparecer cuando tiene que hacerlo, Pirlo asistió a Inzaghi en el primer gol de aquel partido y su equipo terminó ganandole al Liverpool por 2-1. En la siguiente Supercopa de Europa tuvo una actuacion magistral siendo elegido jugador del partido que el Milan le ganó a Sevilla para sumar un nuevo titulo. A partir de ahi el ciclo del Milan campeon de Europa empezo a acabar, con jugadores que cada vez estaban mas cerca del retiro y eso sumado a la marcha de Kaká al Real Madrid dejó al Milan a las puertas de la renovacion, cosa que no ocurrio de la forma que debia ocurrir y el Milan tomo decisiones pensando en el corto plazo. Pirlo estaba en la cima de su nivel y el Milan seguia siendo un equipo competitivo, razon por la que el italiano rechazó su fichaje por el Chelsea, equipo al que se habia ido Carlo Ancelotti, y siguio en Milan, que ganó la Serie A en 2011, pero que cada vez acusaba mas y mas ser un equipo que envejecia demasiado y que no tenia un recambio generacional claro, entrando ahora si en una etapa gris en la que el equipo estaba demasiado viejo para competir. Allegri llegó al equipo para intentar cambiar eso y fue en ese entonces cuando el nuevo tecnico le comunicó a Andrea Pirlo que no le garantizaba la titularidad en su equipo ya que la figura de Riccardo Montolivo parecia suplantarlo en la alineacion titular, razon por la que Pirlo decidió abandonar el Milan y ya con 32 años todo parecia apuntar a que Pirlo iba a empezar a darle fin a su carrera en algun equipo de menos categoria, por eso sorprendio mucho cuando se anunció su nuevo destino. Andrea Pirlo jugó 401 partidos para el Milan y marcó 41 goles.

El anuncio del fichaje de Pirlo por la Juventus sorprendió a propios y a extraños porque justamente por su edad fue que su anterior tecnico lo habia apartado del equipo y con casi 33 años su nivel parecia empezar a bajar, como ocurre normalmente en todo jugador, y lo que mas sorprendia de todo era que el italiano firmó un contrato por tres años, algo poco visto para jugadores de esta edad, fue Antonio Conte el maximo responsable de su exito en la Juve, pues el tecnico italiano decidio vender a dos de los mejores jugadores del equipo en aquel entonces, Felipe Melo y Aquilan para darle esos lugares a Pirlo y al chileno Arturo Vidal, decision muy criticada en aquel entonces porque aunque Pirlo habia tenido años gloriosos en Milan, sus constantes lesiones, su edad y sus ultimas actuaciones en el equipo rossoneri que fueron bastante discretas no le daban mucha fe, pero Pirlo llegó a Turin a demostrar que no ficho por la Juve para sentarse en el banco, fue el titular indiscutible de un equipo que marcó una nueva epoca en el futbol mundial, compartiendo un nuevo tridente en el mediocampo con el ya mencionado Vidal y con Claudio Marchisio, en su primer partido completó 110 pases acertados, fue aqui donde mas se conocieron los goles de tiro libre de Andrea Pirlo y tras su llegada la Juventus salió campeon de la Serie A tras 9 años de no hacerlo. Esa temporada Pirlo fue el segundo maximo jugador del mundo en pases acertados y en ocasiones creadas, superado solo por Xavi Hernandez del Barcelona, al año siguiente volvió a ganar la Serie A pero en la Champions se quedaron en cuartos tras perder contra el Bayern. En el 2014 salieron campeones de liga en mayo, el 13 de ese mismo año eliminaron al Real Madrid en semifinales de la Champions y el 20 de mayo tuvo participacion en las jugadas de gol con las que la Juventus le ganó la Copa Italia a Lazio, el 6 de junio la Juventus de Pirlo llegaba a una nueva final de Champions con la oportunidad de ganar el tan ansiado triplete, pero terminaron perdiendo la final del torneo frente al Barcelona de Messi, Suarez y Neymar. COn 36 años Pirlo y la Juventus decidieron poner fin a su contrato y se marchó ahora si, a una ultima aventura antes de retirarse. Con Juventus, Pirlo jugó 164 partidos y marcó diecinueve goles de los cuales quince fueron de tiro libre. En el 2015 se anunció su fichaje por el New York City de Estados Unidos.

Despues de ser el capitan de la Italia sub-21 que ganó la Eurocopa de esa categoria en el año 2000, Pirlo debutó en la seleccion italiana en el año 2004 de la mano de Giovanni Trapattoni. En marzo de 2005 Italia aseguró su clasificacion al mundial de Alemania con dos goles suyos de tiro libre a Escocia, razon que termino de asegurarle su lugar en la seleccion, ya que por sus lesiones estaba en duda. En dicho torneo Italia tuvo un rendimiento incomparable, Pirlo le anotó un gol desde 32 metros de distancia a Ghana en el primer partido y fue elegido el mejor jugador de ese partido, acabó el mundial con un gol y tres asistencias y siendo campeon tras vencer en la final a la Francia de Zidane y ademas fue elegido como el mejor jugador de la final, y ganador del balon de bronce de aquel torneo. Este fue el unico titulo que Pirlo ganó con la seleccion italiana, siendo su segundo mejor torneo la Eurocopa del año 2012 en donde resultó subcampeon tras caer en la final contra España y un tercer puesto en la Confederaciones del año 2013. En total Pirlo jugó 116 partidos con Italia, en los que marcó 13 goles y dió 23 asistencias.

En total en su carrera como futbolista jugó 871 partidos, la mayoria de ellos en el AC Milan, marcó en total 86 goles y dió 143 asistencias, como dato curioso, es parte del club de 11 futbolistas que han jugado en los tres equipos mas grandes de Italia, Inter, Milan y Juventus, junto a Aldo Serena, Luigi Cevenini, Giuseppe Meazza, Enrico Candiani, Roberto Baggio, Edgar Davids, Patrick Vieira, Christian Vieri, Zlatan Ibrahimovic y Leonardo Bonucci.

En el año 2020 Andrea Pirlo fue designado como el entrenador del equipo sub-23 de la Juventus, que en ese momento estaba en la Serie C del futbol italiano. El 12 de junio del 2022 fichó por el Fatih Karagümrük SK de Turquia, equipo al que dirige actualmente, con un saldo de 9 victorias, 9 empates y 7 derrotas en 25 partidos jugados.
